If you can’t use the OEM cylinder with Dave’s piston, what can you use?

You have to have them plated for the rings. They don’t use real nikisil.

I hear the HyWay cylinders have good hard plating and can withstand it. Does anyone have experience with using these in a HyWay cylinder? (@Definitive Dave )

That’s like putting lipstick on a pig
I know what you're saying, just looking for actual first hand experience with these pistons, not speculation. We already know the stock Stihl jugs wont work with these pistons. Sending cylinders out for plating isn't going to be feasible for many... Also, if Dominant is using the same ring (presumably) and they arnt tearing up HyWay cylinders then maybe the CCC wont either..?

They do use the same 1mm steel ring.
It is a possibility that they will run in a Hyway jug. It’s also a possibility that they may work fine in one hyway cylinder and not the next. It’s not just the plating, but the roundness and the clearance from piston to cylinder wall. Dave’s pistons are designed to run .0018 clearance. I highly doubt hyway can produce that consistency. But, by all means have a go at it. I’m not

Edit, Unless you send the hyway cylinder out to be plated first. Lol

i havent tried with a Hyway cylinder and dont know anyone who has, just doesn't seem likely to happen often because the piston would cost more than the cylinder LOL

replating isnt as bad as people might think, if you have a used cylinder, even if it is rough with bad plating you can go ahead and port it and have it replated cheaper than a new OEM cylinder in many cases and it will be better quality than a new OEM cylinder as well

There's a few guys out there that I see are building with Hyway and liking the quality. I have yet to try them myself but if the timing can be counted on to be fairly consistent the Hyway could be a viable alternative.
One good thing about the trade equalization with China is, that they will have to compete on a one to one basis, I believe that this should drive the quality up as it's the only way to sell their products. I also think that this is already starting to occur. I think that people will be happier paying more for something that doesn't end up in the garbage can.
So what I am saying in a nutshell is keep an open mind in the future as one day it could possibly flip and AM cylinders be the preferable option.

Hyway is out of Taiwan LOL, at this point better than China in my opinion. Hyway does a pretty good job

China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the tariff's are affecting them all I believe and any other countries that want in on the game as far as I understand it.
But I hear what you are saying about the difference between the two.

Hong Kong is now ruled by china to the best of my knowledge but Taiwan is a totally separate country and I don't think the China tariffs affect them at all, I couldn't find quick info online to support either argument :(

Not even worth an argument, but I do see the prices going up, up, up. Could be a separated deal but the outcome is kinda the same.

The main point I was trying to convey is across the board, things are changing and we shouldn't be hard fast to one thought or another going forward. You don't have to go back that many years for it to be unheard of to even having this discussion, then we were trying to figure out what role if any these parts could be utilized. I personally will install them on a firewood saw to get it running again and that's where it ended. So I'm going to have to change my ways as well.

Taiwan is not under the China tariff. I install cranes and do runway service at a Taiwan owned steel warehouse. China is sending all of their steel to the states through Taiwan. And their business is booming

Wow and here you always have Taiwan afraid of China invading them. I guess the power of money changes all lol.
