Taiwan is not under the China tariff. I install cranes and do runway service at a Taiwan owned steel warehouse. China is sending all of their steel to the states through Taiwan. And their business is booming

I've actually ordered from Hyway directly from Taiwan, and directly from China as well and the prices from both places is much higher now than before. And when "we" say an AM cylinder they tend to get all lumped together in that category. And yes as a rule Hyway stuff has a much betterer track record for being usable, as in not tossed in the round file, but as I stated before that is changing too.

Hyway is out of Taiwan LOL, at this point better than China in my opinion. Hyway does a pretty good job

Well, I know someone who is using a 56mm 066 CCC piston in a Hyway. I'll key ya's know what he finds. Hes confident it will work fine since he has been using a lot of the dominant pistons in Hyway cylinders. Send it!

There's a few guys out there that I see are building with Hyway and liking the quality. I have yet to try them myself but if the timing can be counted on to be fairly consistent the Hyway could be a viable alternative.
One good thing about the trade equalization with China is, that they will have to compete on a one to one basis, I believe that this should drive the quality up as it's the only way to sell their products. I also think that this is already starting to occur. I think that people will be happier paying more for something that doesn't end up in the garbage can.
So what I am saying in a nutshell is keep an open mind in the future as one day it could possibly flip and AM cylinders be the preferable option.

The 1mm chrome faced steel ring is actually much stronger than the 1.2 or 1.5 mm cast iron rings. Wiseco uses them for strength and less parasitic loss in the way of friction against the cylinder wall.

Are all Wiseco pistons like this? So if I buy for a two stroke bike ,four wheeler or snowmobile I have to ensure the jug(s) coating can handle it?

Im not sure what plating other types of engines use or even what types of rings Wiseco uses for them, i am strictly a chainsaw kinda guy

Will those rings do well on the older hard chrome cylinders?

I have no way of knowing but i would very wary of running a chrome ring in a chrome bore, sounds like a bad idea that might ruin both.

You are correct Dave. No chrome bores at all when using chrome rings, something to do with metallergy. Kinda like if you try running a titanium piston in a titanium bore, they will bond to each other.

Teflon work well on pistons but for cylinder bores I think it would be to soft it would ware pretty quick but I could be wrong.

Been there done that. Never ends well and it ends quickly. Cast on chrome . No chrome on chrome or tool steel on chrome. It's a Rockwell-H thing.
