took me five minutes to mill this 4’ 1x10 with my homemade mill and my homelite super xl 925. the cant was dry hard maple. not sure if that’s considered too slow, but i didn’t want to push the saw. turning the cant to cut 1 1/4 by six from the rest, which is really the size i want so that i can end up with a few finished 6 by 3/4 for a woodworking project down the road. regardless of the speed, it is somehow pretty satisfying to cut your own boards from your own trees. thanks for all the insight.

Nice job - the set up looks great.

I think you said you were starting the saw with with a drill? Just be careful if you're using a socket on the flywheel nut, as it might loosen it over time. It's exciting when they come loose while running (happened to a mower I was starting with a drill because I didn't have a recoil for it)

yeah, took a little trial and error when i first started with the drill. the ratchet adapter works well, but turning the nut counterclockwise with the drill kept turning it loose. after some scrubbing of the nut and the shaft with acetone and application of a good dose of red JB weld, it’s been holding well. if i ever notice it loosening again, i’m gonna drill and tap the nut and put in a couple of those countersunk allen head screws.
