Correct you may have 2 different year crankcase halves. If I understand this right?
Your thinking I have a poly flywheel, PTO side case half, mated up to a metal flywheel, side case half?
Is that even possible? Didn't they change the size of the mixing chamber when they went to the bigger crank in the poly flywheel 066?
Dave's post back on page 2 of this thread gives the crankcase volume measurements...

Yup, in a cold start with 3 cuts down up down will probably shave off a few 1/100 seconds.Gotta be good for a tenth or 2 in the cut just because. Lol
You just took the equivalent of 3 slices of bread off of your saw. That’s incredible. I think your worthy of the mustangmike insane-O reduced weight award. Can you find a couple ounces to get rid of in the form of stuck on oily sawdust?View attachment 141032 I figured out how to make the 066 hybrid even more compact and ergonomic plus lose some more weight.
I stuck a Husqvarna 268XP top handle on it. Lol!
It bolted right on. Makes the 066 feel alot narrower and 3 oz lighter.

How could I forget... that handle is NOT mustang mike approved. The ounces have added up lots over the long haul. I saved half a lb (8oz) just with the muffler.
Still more to go , closing in on the weight of a 046.
Hard to believe how the Husqvarna 268 handle changes the whole feel of the saw.
Well huskyboy you should be proud I got a 268XP handle bar on my 066. LolHow could I forget... that handle is NOT mustang mike approved.

Here she is 14 lbs 10 oz or 14.62 lbs or 6.632 kg.
One more oz or a slice of bread off and she'll weigh as much as a MS460 or a 572XP.
I like to weigh a MS460 or 572XP PHO and see how close those factory specs really are.

The 268 is a lot older saw chassis. It was meant to compete with the 038 series which was a lot heavier saw. I’m sure you know this already though. The 371xp is a more fair comparison at 13lbs.Similar idea when I worked for Stihl in 1989. On my road trips I past these brochures out to dealers and endusers.View attachment 141135
Yup I believe the early 046s were lighter then the MS460. Thanks for posting though. Another goal to get the 066 below.046 of mine, dry of fluids, on the scale...

Wait until I put it on the jenny craig diet....plastic 029 clutch cover, no filter cover, husky 262xp handle, no felling spike, maybe a 029 recoil housing, few other tricks up my sleeve, probably get it under 9.8 lbs....
You sure don't know your history . I past those brochures out in 1989 . The 371XP wasn't introduced until at least 1995 depending what country your in.The 268 is a lot older saw chassis. 268 is basically the same saw as a 266 which dates back to the 162se. They introduced the 272 in response to the 044 before the 371 came out.You sure don't know your history . I past those brochures out in 1989 . The 371XP wasn't introduced until at least 1995 depending what country your in.
The 268XP was the competition for the Stihl 044 that wad introduced in 1988.
Did I strike a nerve? Wasn’t my intention. I’ll leave now. I was joking about weight reduction and trying to be funny in my earlier posts. You sound like a young pup.
