Good to know. I need a new chain or two for my little Echo, and was considering Stihl, but I'd rather buy Oregon if I can.

My bad, I meant to type 91PXL which is .050 gauge. Currently using 91PXL052G with OEM 14" bar on my CS-3000 and it works great, I really can't imagine a better chain for it.

Id love to run a 32 and a 421/4300 some day. I can see a 64217910, a 6100 and a 421/4300 in my near future. You guys are making it way wose.
Its never been much of a ordeal for me to get a customer to order a PS-421/420 .. EA4300 if they want a easy starting smaller size saw. :)

I ran some of the 6400 7300 7900 chassie saws at gtgs and love them. They remind me of my jonnys but way smoother and way more power stock then the semi stock 630 i got. The 7300s run just ahead of my fully ported 670 and the 7900/7910s just walk away and laugh. I really can actually see a need for a small limbing saw in my lineup. Ive been using my wild ported poulan 3314 for fun. Then a ported husky 350 with a kafar 346 topend and or a stihl 011AVT when i feel like running a stihl. Id love a strato gutted 241 but cant swallow the $550 plus tax they go for with a 16" setup around here. I can get a whole lot more saw from dolmar for less money

421 and gut the cat (drill/grind two spot welds) for about 200$ less than 241. You’ll need a double d tool to tune (found it online). Mine runs faster than a stock 026 easily.

My experience of the Chinese built Dolmar ps-420sc (ea 4300 /ps421) "continues" to be, that they are just the same kit of parts and are put together in the same way as they were in Hamburg. This one is a 2018 yr produced saw ...everything is tight, not a rough edge on any plastics and runs spot on out of the box for the run in. The factory seems to set them at 12750-12850 aprox before the engine starts to bed in. I have a 2015 yr german demo saw as a standard to make comparisons from.

I have a 115. It's a good saw. .325 18" 3/816". It fits in nice with a 120 super 24" and ported 7900 28".View attachment 136890
Nice. I love my 115. Nice and narrow and compact. Will be a really bad day if it ever gives up. I bought a 510 to use so it doesn't get as much use and will hopefully last longer. Only on the second tank, but wow. AV system on that is superb. I know it gets knocked because it's underpowered and overweight. OK with not being a 5105 and I think it makes firewood just fine. 2012 new in box, never fueled, made in Germany for $270. Where else do you get that kind of value? And the 421. Just amazes me every time I use it. Completely stock even. Can only imagine one woke up. So much value in the Dolmar line.

I'm a big fan of my Makita EA4300. There is a lot of things I like about this saw. Before making my purchase a few years ago I checked out all the saws in this class and the Makita had everything I was looking for at a great price. The selling points for me were it has 2 nuts, a standard adjustable carb, inboard clutch, large capacity fuel and oil tanks with regular fill caps that can be assisted with a scrench and a common bar mount pattern. I had accumulated quite a few bars and chains from freebie saws that would fit the Makita. So I ordered one online and waited for it show up.

I thought the 4300 had kind of a too small starter handle. I could only fit 2 fingers on it but that's literally all that is needed is 2 fingers and an effortless tug and the saw fires right up. Pretty impressive tune right out of the box. My 4300 didn't have any limiter tabs or epoxy, all I needed was to order a special adjustment tool. After my first few tanks of gas my saw was filthy but it was surprisingly clean under the hood. I took the air filter off for a cleaning and was shocked at the amount of fine sawdust inside the filter body and the attachment point to the carb. I thought this couldn't possibly be right so I inspected the filter very carefully and to my relief I was just the unlucky guy who got a bad filter from the factory. My filter had a pinhole right in the corner on the underside and I fixed it with a dab of hot glue and it has worked great since then.

As you said , I also find the ps-420.421/4300 seems to keep a acceptable amount crud out from the carb/ air filter compartment under most cutting conditions. Interesting to see that your saw has the flock filter supplied (shame about the fault !) with it, as all the saws iv had here in the UK (all Dolmar ps-420) come with the micro mesh sort. I am someone who advocates maintenance , more so if cutting seasoned timber with the dust factor. Green timber is so much nicer cutting IMO.

The fan has no feed to the carb box on the 420/421/4300 and the air mostly comes from the back of the saw under the stop/run switch.

Yip. Love the Makita EA4300 so far. Just converted to .325 and have not tried that out yet. I have to go in and get rid of the cat in the muffler. After doing that does it like a little turn out on the high screw?

I have found the factory set is a little towards the rich end so after a cat delete it would not harm to check out the saw with a Tac. I usually see 13000-13200 rpm before the coil starts to send the reading off . They never seem to be far away from factory settings in the end. 50:1 mix
Easy cat Del ...bend the gills if you dont want to grind them...works fine

This is anomaly that I have observed on every ps 420 ,new, old, assembled in Germany, assembled in china , made no difference. You see the fuel line from the primmer bulb that has dust on it in this pic ? (bottom right)

Photo1406.jpg

Well that dust is stuck to some grease i put on the line as when you pull the trigger the throttle rod ends up rubbing the side of the line towards the end of its travel. There seems very little slack to pull the line back through to move it away from the rod and anyhow , its needed for the flex of the AV movement. Odd they cut the line so tight from factory. The grease is a precaution against chaffing . Might be a point to look out for in case the line gets thinned .

Oh that’s a easy fix. I fixed that on mine by putting the line behind the fuel line the first day I got it. Fuel line holds it back far enough away from the throttle wire assembly where it no longer rubs.
