Anybody ever say you suck! ;)
Nice saws! How did that 3/8 lp sprocket work on your 5105?
Thank you!

I hear that I suck all the time. Lol

I haven’t had time to run it yet. It’s on there, though. I may try it on the 6100 too.
Why not, right? Lol

Over here we have the orange-red Makita brand 5105. Dont recall ever seeing one in blue though, that generation seems to be where they started moving away from it.

Also, I wonder why Maruyama hooked up with Dolmar for saws? I would think it easier and cheaper for them to source saws from a Japanese maker? Their weedeaters aren't terribly common here but those who have experience say they are pretty good.

There was a Makita called EA5000P, that was the blue version of the 5105.
Whenever I find one, I’m gonna try and snag it. They pop up from time to time.

Hi Sondre.
The EA5000p is still the saw that Makita sells un the UK as the equivalent to a Dolmar ps 5105 . I lifted this pic from the Makita UK site ... nothing has changed with the colours or branding here. They do come up for sale second hand now and again as well.

When it comes to the Cat Delete on the ps-420/421 its juts a few spot welds to remove the hole unit but even though the SS mufflers on the Ps-32 and 35 are modular rather than the crimped together sort on the 5105 ,they have very noticeable differences.
Firstly, when it comes to the path of gasses the ps-32 has no bypass hole at all alongside the cat, whereas the ps-35 has one all be it small.
This pic shows a removed cat from a ps-35 and the assembly ready to be removed from the part you keep and return to the muffler on a ps-32. Arrow to the bypass hole.

Photo1233.jpg
The recessed nature of the cat and the number of spot welds you need to get at on the ps-32 (12 spots) makes this "awkward" .
The effort is worth it though , if nothing else to help with some heat discharge . Throttle response is better.

Thanks Simon. If I can’t find over here, I may have to go across the pond and pick one up there.

Maruyama version of the Ps-420/421 just different in its colour ?
Fixed the missing 3410TH for you :)

Yes, they are Maruyama versions of the 5105 and the 421. These were going for very low prices here for a little bit, hence me getting one of each.

You can see my 3410TH lurking in one of the corners. Lol

I followed the thread on the MCV51 here on OPE but i think the MCV41 had little mention at the time. No real network of supply this side of the pond for the brand. I find it Interesting how the "professional " tittle is used on the MCV41 . You detect any issue with the 41 compared to your 421/420 ?

Yea !! Lol...overkill or what with the Ps-32. I get the feeling a effort has been made to discourage any ease of tampering on the base model that mostly will get sold to folks who just want a cheep saw.
These little saws are very decent to use and put together and thought out nicely.

As far as I can tell it’s exactly the same saw, just different stickers and paint. Made in Germany too. I haven’t ran the MCV42 yet, as I have a red one and a blue one as well.

The smallest you can go in the rear handled saw group.
32cc of small saw goodness in IMO.

Photo1385.jpg

Takes some effort to get this out (if you want to) but there are plenty that have the cat in them still .

Photo1386.jpg

4 point spring AV....aluminium oil pump (adjustable ) ...rear tank ,motor and front handle are separate items..... 14 " .43 (1.1mm Oregon 90 px) 3/8 lo pro bar and chain.

Photo1387.jpg

Mpi coil (13100 rpm) easy start...top cover uncovers the lot...carb ,filter and cylinder . I like that for proper cleaning and ease of maintenance .

Photo1388.jpg

Headed for a winter of small firewood, pruning and pallet cutting.

My FIL has one, and it's a nice little saw. He has safety chain on it, with huge bumpers and rakers set high, so it barely cuts, but he won't let me 'fix it', because he's so afraid of kickback. I'd love to see how it could cut with some full chisel Stihl Picco on it.

I really like using one on lite jobs. I can highly recommend the Oregon 90px chain .... Dolmar supply it with the saws in the box as standard here .
The key with this little saw is to use the 3/8 1.1mm .43 14 inch bar and chain combo iv found for best results. Going up to 3/8 1.3mm .50 just adds extra load . Pico is fast i agree when perfectly sharp, but the micro 1.1mm is such a good compromise chain without loosing cutting performance and on the small nose bar they fit are not a heavy kick back combo at all.
The Oregon has a longer tooth by the way.

90PXL just rocks, I'm switching all my small saws to it.

Good to know. I need a new chain or two for my little Echo, and was considering Stihl, but I'd rather buy Oregon if I can.

The thing with using it iv found has been the very small number of bar choices . Oregon mostly in the uk.
