I played with my wood today.

Mostly just moved it around while the ground was frozen again. The little 884 did very well with the little red wagon ! May need to pump up the rear tires a bit but they survived lol

In my area if you leave it in a big heap for the year in the mud you can then call it “seasoned” and sell it off for $370 a cord
Here they sell split mouldy green beech and oak as seasoned , 1.7 cubic meter stack pallets (outer pallet measurements!) for 170€!

I'll just stick to purchasing firewood logs, thank You. 😒

I just checked yesterday as a coworker asked me about firewood log prices.

Last year it was 42€ for beech per cubic meter including delivery.
See my sig for conversion!

What do the logs cost Wilhelm?
I pay $2300 for a truck and a pup which nets me about 12-14 saleable cord then another cordish of undesireable firewood (cookie, cut offs, etc)
The last time that I bought a truck and pup trailer load was in 2016. At that time it was $90 a cord. Depending on the size of the oak logs, a full load was about 12-13 cords. I'm very fortunate now that I have property to cut on that I can take as much firewood as I want!

I'll post this here seeing how I have cut a lot of firewood from this scrap pile. I got a call from one of the landowners son in law this afternoon that he was going to burn one of the scrap piles up. This pile is in a pasture that was converted into tillage land last spring. They want the pile gone and it's cheaper to burn it than move it. It's a lot of wood to burn! He told me bring some beers and enjoy the fire. It's probably 30-40 cords of wood.

Usually truck and a pup is cheaper than what people want for standing wood.
The only time it’s free for me is when it’s a big tree or the wood is split between the land owner and I.
I’ve been a part of burns like that, probably felt the heat where you were standing?

I totally agree with you about the cost effectiveness of buying a load of logs. That's what I did years ago. The firewood for the landowners owb that I cut is pretty easy to do. Whether it's blowovers or dead standing trees, all I do is block them up to length. His nephew brings the tractor out to split and haul to the wood shed. I don't buy truck loads for my cabin because I can take all I want from this property. I have a small trailer but once I open my cabin up for the season I haul wood up most weekends so it adds up. I might also add that I love harvesting whole trees for firewood! It's enjoyable for me just to be out in the woods cutting up trees! There's also drawbacks to this, such as bugs, thorns , tripping over sticks and brush.

You always have to drink two on Your breaks, for balance and stuff! :Saeufer:

In regards to bugs, tune rich & ad twice the amount of oil to Your mix. 😅
