That is a great way to do it, if you have the manpower to lift everything. For me by myself, or with one other guy, it really doesn’t work.

Yep understand, without a telehandler it’s a giant no go unless maybe have some wall jacks. I know as I get older they just get heavier.

Got the rest of the fire damaged studs out, plumbed and braced the walls the best I could, added another top plate to most of the walls, and got the outside walls of the addition built.

Trusses are coming around noon on Monday, so we will have about 4 hours in the morning to tie up loose ends.

I’m taking the day off tomorrow. :)

I suppose I could use the backhoe.

Might work if it’ll reach lol. The crew I worked on we used to sheath em if we could lift them, which most the time was with the fork lift.

But if we had to lift them ourselves we left them them bare so we could get up. Just how it goes. Use what you have and do what you can.

Like the process you have going here. With all the moisture you have on that site how do you address that in the crawl space? Does CA have certain codes to follow for that?

Here the builders install a half a$$ vapor barrier. I’ve installed a lot of radon systems in crawlspaces that really help pull moisture out of the space.

I’m not sure yet. Hoping that if I fix the drainage issues it wont be so wet under there. I’m assuming the house has had moisture issues since it was built in 1950, but the wood under the house is in remarkably good condition... other than the rot around the exterior that I had to fix.

As far as I know, we don’t really have a radon problem here.

The house to the left in the bottom shot is really close.

But I like the raised ceiling I can see on the addition. This place is going to look great when you're done.
That’s the detached garage from the house next door. It’s only about 8’ from my house, and 1’ from the property line...

Apparently there was a point in time when a garage could be built right on the property line, new zoning rules are 5’ from the lines on the sides/back of property in town, and 20’ from the front (assuming you aren’t in an easement).

Over 1 acre and the setbacks increase significantly.

Didn’t get too much work done today... had to take myself and the kids to the dentist. Framed the end wall... but still need to fill in under the windows.

Also did some cleanup and (lucky me! :() I found another rotten spot under the floor where the PO’s had the laundry room/water heater. It rotted out due to water damage, and they just put some 1 1/8” ply over it... So that will need to be addressed.

Got the rest of the trusses up... my helper didn’t show up, so I just stood them up by myself. The last two my brother showed up and helped me. That was by far the scariest part, so I was glad to have him there.

The front porch was only 3’6” wide, so we decided to bump it out another 2’... which meant most of the day adding beams, and building a smaller gable end truss from scratch. It’s probably not legal, but I don’t really care at this point. I like the dimension that it adds.

Where does the 10-person hot tub go?
