I have a few head of cattle, and cut hay on a bit of land. Once in a while we get paid some "welfare" if there's a drought, or something of that nature. We can also get help with cost sharing on barns, fencing, bulls, etc. To qualify for these programs you have to attend a few hours of classes, and must have filed actual farm tax forms showing your profit, or losses. For the drought program you pay a yearly fee....like insurance. In my humble opinion, helping us small farmers out is a hell of a better use of tax dollars than giving another tax cut to some billionaires who don't need it....
