My mention of the 10 speed was about as clear as Mississippi mud. Many of the early Honda units had a high and low gear box which essential gave them a 8 or 10 speed. In practicality it did not. It was not like a 2 speed axle in a truck. In 1982 Honda started the work ATV market with the 200E three wheeler. It had a 5 speed with a high low but NO reverse. The H/L shifter was not easily accessible. In 1983 they changed the paint scheme a bit and added a reverse but still keep the high and low. The H/L/R shifter was easily accessible on the left side. In 1984 they used that engine/tranny to build the first work four wheeler the Fourtrax 200. In 1985 they upped it to 250cc and eliminated the H/L and added a more user friendly reverse system that continued to possibly present day

Don't forget the '84 200es. The only year the 200 Big Red was shaft drive, and still retained the H/L sub trans... I happen to have one of those as well, pulls like a tractor, great little workhorse ;)

Lastly, I have a pair of 125M, one is a true survivor, the other is pretty beat... Also have a 110 and a 70 with a 110 pit bike mill in it.. Can't seem to find a pic of the ATC70/110... That thing is a riot! My minty 125M is first in line in the second pic.

So yeah, Hondas run a long, long, looooooong time. :D

The 1982 "Big Red" was chain driven and was the first "work" It sold for $1500 out the door. It had the distinctive black stripe on teh tank

It was quite the work horse. My grandpa baught it brand new. It got worked hard for years from many nights of coon hunting to hauling fire wood.

I remember when we had multiple motorcycle shops in the nearest town. Now there are none but there are many more folks with ATV's and cycles
