Here is our dilemma, we are small and can't afford the Genome expert PCR testing like the bigger hospitals, we serve an area of approximately 30,000 residents. For as now, we must send to Labcorp or Arup laboratories - turn around time of 4-5 days, not very clinically valuable information if you ask me. We have the Cephied GeneXpert molecular analyzer and we are waiting on them to release their new testing kit for COVID, it may be days or weeks before we get them. When we get that, we will be able to collect and result in 2 hours.
Now Evansville about 40 miles from me is a metropolis of approximately 300,000 residents. Deaconess in Evansville is a multi - trillion dollar hospital network. Now they can collect, test and result in 2 hours.
It's all about dollars.....and I hate it when it deals with public health.
As I said earlier, and this is my opinion, I don't for see this being contained. And I am not optimistic about our future, and I am biting my lip from saying other things.
I generally am a very optimistic person, but it is going to get worse before it gets better. I hope I am wrong. I hope I can come back here in a month and say what a dumass alarmist I am.
In some ways I admire the Canadian healthcare system (you obviously can get results, before I can) but like ours it has it's good and bad.

In the time I have typed this, our local main employer in this area has just announced they also are shutting down for 2 weeks. Toyota Manufacturing, this will have 8-10,000 people laid off.

I think there will be hundreds of thousand or even millions of cases in North America. The thing we need to be mindful off is that a positive test isn't a death sentence. Of our 17 local positives only one is in hospital and that is not because of the Covid itself but more so the poor reaction to the diagnosis and being unable to care for his/her self at home. More than half our positives are over 70 yrs old and 16 of 17 are confirmed travel related.

Let's not forget that in 2009-10 more than 59 Million Americans had contracted H1N1 and some 12 000 died as a result. Before this current outbreak had anyone thought about H1N1 recently? This too shall pass and the herd will be stronger on the other end. Yes I feel for those that get sick and the families of those that don't survive but we will get through this.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. It isn't the virus that's got me in such a state of disdain, it is "the handling of it," and the repercussions that may happen.

I'm a warehouse and inventory supervisor and run stocking crews for wm
People for the most part have been good20200319_043751.jpg20200319_043526.jpgbut the crush of people has stripped our distribution centers.
We don't get as much product now
These are dairy/frozen overstock coolers
Usually 85/95% full of freight pre corona
What we get in daily sells through immediately.
Tommorow rationing starts on
One per customer milk, water, paper, sanitizer and certain food's.
Tuesday's elderly can come in one hour before
Anyone else to shop.
People are getting hateful20200318_103501.jpg
6 pallets of papergoods lasted less than 45 minutes.
I'm on overtime trying to keep up.
Locally all restaurants are carryout or drive through.
Ngk sparkplugs shut down over a 1000 job's
for a minimum of two weeks but they are getting paid.

No matter how bad it gets nobody will hardly buy RC
product's.
Sunkist,rc cola etc.
Yep. Picked up a case of coke and a case of ginger ale while I was getting pooch food after work today...RC products looked almost untouched. An RC Cola and a good ol’ Moonpie used to be the thing...40-50 years ago!

I remember those days. People used to also buy a bottle of coke and a pack of peanuts and put the peanuts in the coke.
