Interestingly when I removed the max flow filter, I found this.

It looks like the filter was coming apart a little. Maybe if I had blown it out first it would have been ok.

New filter. I didn't wash it is why it did that. I didn't think about that doing it. I'll have to wash the other new one here before I use it.

Good data for us saw geeks. It looks like I'll keep running the max flow coverless unless rain. Wonder if more holes would improve it more?

Good to know.
We looked at the setup and it really looked like the cover was compressing and blocking flow.

There are 2 runs where there is a nice power band of very close to 8HP on the graphs with the maxflow filter w/ no cover.
The 3rd run w/ max flow didn't show as much -- but that is why we do at least 3 runs. The dyno can still be quite variable but were working on cleaning it up further!

When we get the dyno refined to where we are happy (I think we can make improvements to get even more consistency and cleaner curves) and we have some more time we can try 5 passes per setup. Each pass only takes like 5 seconds and the graphs pop out instantly.

Enjoyed working on this. Looking forward to more.

Oh -- and if I remember right upon each re-tune the saw was tuned to around 14.3 K
Also I think we were surprised to find the RPMs drop and had to lean it when going to no filter when we expected it to lean out figuring more air when going from yes filter to no filter. Do I have that right Dan? I remember we were all surprised at the tuning required when changing things to get it back to 14.3 K.

Yes that's correct! I forgot about that. Another interesting tidbit.

So basically, the big benefit of the max flow is only w/o a filter cover.

Dan, I don't run the spitback cover, and on 2 of my 460s I also removed that black shroud between the cover & saw.

I wonder if that makes it similar to running w/o a filter cover???

Good stuff, thanks for testing. If you ever get a chance, I would like to see the timing tested also. I would also like to see an HD-2 tested. I've got plenty of them (no wrap or foam)!

Question for you guys:. Jason, Kevin, and Keith all seem to run filters exposed with no cover that look max flow "style" at least. The red one on Keith's saw looked different though... Does the green oval shaped max flow seem to make the strongest power and agree with what we seemed to see in testing? Can you guys even tell? I'm thinking no but the crazy strong saws circulating the area here all seem to have filters with no cover max flow or similar -- gotta be for a reason. If I remember right Jason's was further modified ? Some of the metal mesh removed? Or maybe they come that way. Just wondering here.

Eric, Jason cut open a stock filter for a frame for the max flow. The one that comes with it is plastic.
