The 272 piston takes up less case space. In addition, the ring pack area is much narrower.

With a few tricks, it’s a good way to get 460 torque out of a 446. They don’t scream as much as their 460 pistoned brethren.

The meteors are cheap and good quality. They are also light and dont create a lot of vibes. For the 460 slug, the factory $100 is the only way to go because of weight IMHO. The single ring pin is centered over the intake, so fingers are possible.

IIRC, the 272 piston crown is .140 above the top ring land. I took .040 off crown and left .100.

I took 35-37 out of band. Hemi jug preferable to keep compression down.

Then you need a double metal base gasket or the factory Stihl green .035 gasket than came in saws from regions with crappy fuel. Should yield a squish of 18 and around 210 psi.

I concur with @drf256 and @Canadian farm boy ,@huskihl . My 446 is a screamer. It's my favorite saw right now. I used a new oem kolben Schmidt top end to build mine. HEMI head. I have a d jug to try, courtesy of @drf256 . But I guarantee you'd be pleased with how my HEMI runs. Oem or meteor is the final answer in slugs. I'm with you though on testing with Chineseum... However, watch pin bosses, perpendicularity, skirt lengths, ring pins etc. I've had Chinese pistons give me some trouble. Whenever possible, I like oem.
