I'll put my unported 044 and 440 up against any unported 372 out there. If I don't beat all of them, I'll beat most of them.

Maybe I'll get them dynoed at the upcoming GTG. I honestly don't know which one runs stronger, I like em both!

Ill take that bet ..only its a 371 with a muffler mod and no base gasket, ive never offered to race but ill do it for pink slips..are you game ?

Long or short bar ?

What size wood ?

Stock first choices are the 10mm 044 (sounds ported as it came) and first year 046. Neither of those need porting.

Second string (but still great) choices stock are the 12mm 044, 460, and 038 mag.

Third to me is the stock old edition 372. Mine was almost worthless without a second muffler port and couldn't beat my 038 magnum. Now I have two ported 372's and they are my to go saws as they have great balance and AV. The 372 is a saw I think really benefits from porting to be what it should, kinda like an 088.

For plain eye and ear opening fun the 700 Mac & p41's are a blast.

I could put a new 7310 in my hands. Tell me why I should?
Nobody can tell You it is not a 70cc saw like is being done with the PS-7900/7910 as 73cc is well within the 70cc range.
You will not be told that the PS-7310 power head is too heavy for her rated power as is being done with the PS-6400.
You can run the crap out of her and once the P&C are worn slap a OEM PS-7910 P&C on and rediscover enjoying Your saw.

I should have gotten that PS-7310 I waited too long to pull the trigger on...

Truth is I'd rather have a 6400 . Guys that dis them don't grasp the concept of a torquey saw.

I love my Dolmar PS-6400 :icon12: , but I adore my Dolmar PS-7900 - both stock aside from a MM on my 79'er. :)

My Dolmar PS-6400 is my undisputed all round go to saw!

I'll compete with you any time in 18" hardwood, but I'm not running for pinks. Since I doubt you have owned the saw since new, you don't know if it has ever been worked.

Do they get gasket deletes, muffler mods, and timing advance?[emoji6]

I hope the owners do whatever they can to squeeze performance out of them, but I have no control over that, I just do what I can for my saws, and I'm very surprised how well the 440 runs. I never expected it to keep pace with my 044.

I also hear that timing advance does not always help the Husky's like it does for the Stihl, maybe they have more from the factory?

I will agree with the other poster, a ported 372 is a mean machine, I don't take anything away from them.

I don't have the tools to do porting, and I have less than $100 into the 440, so I feel it does well for what it is.

I'd love to see it run. If you are ever bringing it to a GTG, let me know.

Likely, but you don't really know even that, unless the design is approved of.
When we are done with it, Niko, it will be "certified and approved"! If there were any to be bought we probably would have just pitched in and bought one. We are putting in a lot of time and effort on this and are not looking for mediocre results.
As was mentioned before though, numbers are relative, the goal of this project is to assist us in our builds to learn what works and what doesn't. The rest, comparing saws at gtg's and such is more for fun.
Who really cares anyways? A saw doesn't have to be the best to put a smile on my face, most built saws can do that! And a few stock Huskys!!![emoji2]
