On the older style Stihl vents with the tiny hole, you can block the entire hole and the decomp still breathes from underneath the area arrowed below. Not sure on the newer style.

Steve, if you install the decomp and slowly pull the saw over, do u feel compression loss and hear it hissing at all?

359 I offered to get going for a local guy that bought my 5105. I don't usually do work for other people but I knew if this guy took it to the dealer he'd get worked over and i couldn't let that happen. They put an ebay China top end on it and thought it'd be a good idea to go back for a carb. What they got was setup for a primer. They couldn't not hook something up to it so there was a mess of fuel line with a tee under there. They removed the short impulse hose and somehow had that plumbed into the mix. It was some pretty impressive redneck engineering. I only had time to throw a rebuilt 199 on it last night and fire it up. Tonight I'll tune, put a metal clamp on, and get it back to him. Then I can hopefully get the 2139 done that I shoved to the back of the bench...

I couldn't honestly tell the difference between on and off, being brand new I was perplexed at how it could be plugged up.
I can put my pressure tester on it and see just exactly what is going on with it and test your theory, but it looks crimped tight to me.
I'll report back what I find out.

Well, technically speaking it does release pressure. Practically speaking, at not enough rate to be effective. Hisses out slowly like the Doc said. Guess I will re-install it...:rolleyes:

I sometimes drill out the ones with the tiny holes.....helps a lot.

Those.....they're just for decoration I reckon. LOL

Anyone need to feel better about their bench organization? Even overflowed onto the second desk/bench. Kids and wife are all sick, and I'm about to go to Chicago for work – things fell apart down cellar...

I'm in the middle of a 201TC non-M (toast, need to organize it and part it out) and a new version 261 (acts lean, no torque, doesn't really 4-stroke at WOT, erratic idle...but holds 7lbs of pressure for hours with no leak (even dunked it in a bucket!) and vacuum dropped from 15inhg to 13 in an hour with many crank revolutions...new solenoid, carb kit, vent works, fuel line holds pressure and vacuum, new fuel filter...guess I'll replace crank seals to rule that out, test again, and if it's the same cough up $90 for a new carb...)

Have you done a compression test?
