In the past, I have seen too much muff opening make it difficult to set idle + / or diminish throttle response. And, sometimes, not increase performance.

Please keep in mind, these are not ported saws, they are stock saws, just looking for a little bump in performance at a low cost.

Only time I've seen idling issues is with very large front exit holes.

Only a muffler mod on a pure bone stock, brand new saw

No idling or tuning issues and a bunch of people at the Ct gtg thought it was ported because it made such an improvement over a saw with a stock muffler

I’ve done a bunch of them, ported, stock, it doesn’t matter, letting them breathe makes them run betterer

I did a large front exit on my 395 just to play around with. I had to turn the low side out 3 turns but it would idle all day long. It's ported tho

Every saw is different. When I opened up the dp cover on my 044 it did not like it, problems with idle and throttle response. Ended up putting that cover on a 046 and it liked it open even more. The 044 runs a stock dp muffler cover. I don't buy dp covers any more, I just drill the holes instead.

Making more progress on the 064. I checked the compression for the heck of it and it’s only 110 psi. I hope it is because it’s not broken in yet.

Is the gage good? That seems low, hope it works out! Have had a few gages that went bad

I ran my clone 372 yesterday after doing some port work, it gained but wasn’t quite what
I was looking for, so today after work I did some more porting 100/120/75 going to see how it runs after that! If I am not happy going to machine .020-.030 out of the band, to gain some compression, lifting the exhaust to 100 from 107 it lost 10 psi, still had 165 psi, I didn’t want to lower the intake, in case I machine .030, that would probably be ideal, but trying to learn

Have you ran it with just one of those ports? One of those holes is the same size a my 250r with a 350 kit exhaust!

That's way low, I'd check it with another gauge to make sure yours is right. If it is than you'lL need to tear it down.

I think the gauge is good, I checked the compression on a 032 and it read 140 psi.

The cylinder on the 064 had aluminum transfer on it and i cleaned it up.

Never assume the gauge is good because it showed an ‘allowable’ pressure on another saw. It may still be reading low. Do you know for sure that the 032 has 140psi?

Reason I say this is I went through a similiar situation with my gauge when working on the infamous TS800: showed 186psi on my gauge. Verified the gauge with my Doc-ified 026 (which has well over 200 psi) and it showed 90psi. Tested with another gauge and the 026 read 218psi and the TS800 showed 105psi. New rings in the TS800 and then verified 168psi on it and 217psi on the 026. My original gauge had all sorts of erratic readings, so it has been replaced.

This came in after 7pm last night for me to tune.
Had just been woods ported, unlimited coil and H side carb.
Running the shorter of the 2 bars = 44" 404 bar for the wood I had on hand.

I could be wrong, but the gains you are looking for may be in lowering that intake. If I'm wrong, there is always epoxy! 78-80 seems to work well with a lot of saws.
