That serial number makes me wonder if it was some sort of "Experimental" model?

At the same time, other Clinton saws I have seen also have a X in the serial number.

This one crossed the bench today, just blew a few cobwebs off, wiped it down a bit, and move it up to the display. Very low on compression and the starter cup is so badly worn that the pawls will not catch any more. For the time being, it will just sit there and look used. From Mike Acres site I believe this is a model HB.





The fuel tank and carburetor remain in position, while the engine rotates 90 degrees in either direction as needed for felling cuts.





From Mike Acres site, the HB was an improved version of the HA and introduced the direct drive chainsaw to the world.

A while ago I bought this 261 arctic from Bill and sent it over to 309 for a wrap and for port work. After tinking with the stock wrap I was able to transfer the heating element over to the 309 wrap. Wcs cover, filter and dogs. PS billet muffler. cannon super mini 3/8LP. Little saw rips now

Just finished up this 350 with an OE 353 top end thanks to @Mastermind. Deleted the base gasket and opened up the muffler. First cuts went well, running a little fat for a few tanks. Also, got my boys LT80 engine out and boxed up to send out to get a nice port job and rebuild, should rip pretty good!

I have been working on the Clinton when I can, seems like there has been a lot of other things to deal with this week. I have everything cleaned up and in the process discovered some advanced corrosion. This is the belt cover, I didn't have any Bondo so I use some JB Weld to fill in a spot. There was a pretty substantial hole all the way through.



The belt cover also had a mounting hole broken out. To provide some extra strength I drilled a couple of small holes in the flange and formed a piece of steel wire to the basic shape then made a little form to mold the J B.





When the JB cured I drilled out the hole and used an end mill to establish the surface for the screw head to seat against.





A bit of file work and sanding and the cover has all its ears again.
