Looks very much like a McCulloch, but not a McCulloch D-44. That is a cool looking saw!
It is a neat piece for sure. They also weren't kidding about the "lightweight" on the top cover. I threw it on the scale for fun, 21" hard nose bar, but no chain and it's within ounces of my 026 with a 20" Tsumura. Pretty impressive for a 70cc saw especially when you consider the era it came from.

Bounced some info and pics off my buddy that works on power equipment for a living and we figured out the carb is pretty similar to a newer Tecumseh, ordered a handful of parts that hopefully fit and get it running on its own. Carb is pretty clean but the soft parts are very dried out.

395xp from a tree service friend. Going through a quick diagnostic: scored piston, 75psi compression, crankcase passed pressure and vacuum test 👍

Dull chain? Straight gas? Bad tune?Or possibly bad decompression that doesn’t pop back out all the way on its own? Also did you roll crank while doing pressure/vac test to check for loose bearings or stiff seals? Odd it would be blown up if it passed pressure and vacuum unless straight gas or someone tuned it to really cut for about 3 minutes.

Thanks for getting some more things in my brain. I did rotate the crankshaft while doing the pressure/vac but am unaware what loose bearings would feel like. I had planned to pop off the cylinder to check out the bearings. Any further suggestions on things to check are welcome 👍

Dana 20 transfer case from my '69 Bronco.

I used to machine HD output shafts and custom housings for the Dana 20s... I had to fabricate a skidplate/case protector/girdle because with Big power and big tires if you didn't, it would split those cases in half. I then went with a 203/205 doubler in my mudder/play rig and in my crawler I used a D300 with a tera low kit...
Sooo glad I don't mess with Jeeps and buggies anymore. With that said, I'm looking for a 68-72 Nova, Camaro, etc etc shell... what's out there.

Over the years I've had 3 of them. A 68 SS, and 2 72 models. One of the 72s had a built 400 in it that was stupid powerful. That's when I got really good at rebuilding TH350s.

I had a 68 442... The day I sold it i seen 3 on the highway heading home. Like gut punches with everyone that passed.

I'm building a destroked 400... Dart SHP block, callies rods and crank, CP pistons, Dart Aluminum pro series heads... etc... should be good for 650-700hp

I built a few myself... same with th400s. One can build a th350 to hold power. I used to machine the clutch drums for extra steel plates and friction pads then set the clearance a little tighter, modify the valve bodies, sprag, etc etc...
