As a firewood cutter I don't either but most guys who cut for a living can tell a difference and like the spring, not saying all but most. Even my dad who used to cut for a living has come around to the spring AV, he still cuts more then a casual firewood cutter.

R u refering to the hole in the top lid? Cuz itook it if u drilled the extra hole in the gasket/diaprham the hole in the lid wasnt needed. This was a gray area in the vid. Lol! I got scared Wayne! I dont wanna drill a hole in the metal if i dont have to. This wAs a serious question i had coursing through my brain during install. All is not lost, it still can be done cuz the damn AF wire/ hanger/ keep it tight thingy didnt come with either the new filter holder or the filter...... this project is not done..

The carb has an internal vent for the metering plate. If one uses a gasket without the tiny extra hole, the diaphragm can’t move and the saw leans out.

If the correct hole is in the gasket/diaphragm, there’s no need to drill the metal. But drilling the hole is cheap insurance and easy/safe to do.

Have no fear of putting a small hole in the lid as all you are doing is allowing the atmospheric pressure to act directly on the metering diaphragm as needed.
It will assist the internal hole that Scot shows needing to be unblocked if using the different diaphragm.
