Whether or not the 461 carbs you encounter have #70 jets in them or not.

Of the few that I've been into, a couple ran fine, and a couple needed drilled. So maybe they came with 2 different sizes.

Dumb ass question: is the jet size a measurement or just a numeric reference?

Regarding my micro drills, a .55mm bit will fit into a #58 jet, while a .6mm will not. Its my belief that the number is in hundredths of a mm, at least in the sizes were talking about. No idea if a #100 jet is in fact 1mm diameter

Lol. Big difference between the two looks like someone else has been in there before.

I had to drill it out for a 4-40 set screw so I could put a smaller hole in it. Went from all the way in on the high side and just barely cleaning up in the cut to 1 turn out with 500 more rpm in the cut.

I've soldered them up completely, then drilled them to size. Seems to be a simple way to do it.

So #12 is all you gotta change?

The universal solution is swapping the choke shaft control lever on the carb. Sometimes you can just swap the saw's control levers, but sometimes they will not work.

I wish I could remember which swaps worked and which did not, but I have done 460 carbs into a 461, and 461 carbs into 460s and 440s. I think you can also mod a 461 control lever to get a 460 carb to work.

I just know that some control levers will not work in some saws. I'm thinking a 460 lever in a 461, or a 461 lever in a 440??? (maybe both)? I just remember I had some problems when I played with these things.

Now you guys have really got me thinking.

I reported previously how my MOFO ported 460 "loved" the 461 carb, but not my other saws. I had purchased 2 461 carbs. Now I'm wondering if the first one had the larger jet, and the second one (which I tried on all the other saws) had the smaller jet!!!

If that is the case, it would explain everything!
