Someone enlighten me on doing a muffler mod on a makita 7900 ( dolmar 7910).

If it has the slr uncrimp the outside & gut it.

Naa I'll heat it up and open the crimp if I had to. Just hoping someone had a way to do it without splitting it.

5105 mufflers come apart fairly easy without heat. Not sure how similar they are to the 7900 though.

This is what I did to the MS460 on my bench today:

Spark Plug, Fuel Filter and Air Filter, and flushed the tank twice, the filter was filthy.

Replace the busted chain brake flag, luckily I keep them in stock.

Muff Mod, Timing Advance and remove the Carb Limiters.

Replace the chain sprocket (and it was one of those that did not want to come off). Had to grind the washer to get the clip out, and the clip was not re useable.

Drill the stripped hole out and glue in a nut to hold the lower dog and chain catch.

Hopefully, this thing will run well when I'm done with it.

For me, the 660s were a lot less of a headache. The only way to rationalize the time spent is if you can look at it as a fun learning experience, otherwise AHHHHHHH!!!!!

We shall see. Alot of these problems are very easily fixed with just alittle time. Troubleshooting is the key
