what was wrong with it, looks like u got it going ur way now.... looks good!

Bad piston, and a fair amount of transfer on the cylinder.
I used Mastermind's method to clean up the cylinder without acid. I went with 180 grit for general clean up, then 320 grit for smoothing, followed by a white Scotch Brite buffing.
I was fairly suprised at how clean the saw is, once I got all of the mung cleaned off of it.

good pix of piston side and circlip... which is the preferred position of the opening? I have read down twds the crankcase... I see this one is 90 out... wondering what is preferred? services best, or they rotate? as tight as they are to get in, don't seem to me they would rotate...

6 or 12 o'clock position for the opening is preferred since the centrifugal force is directed up/down the opening straight up or down will have less tendency to flex.

I read 6 for the open end... do circlips really move around?
dont know, I always turn them around a few times before I let them be. Sometime 12 o'clock sometime 6 oclock, like the one you quote me on was 12.
No sure if I do it correct or not

My 42/242's can now continue, for some odd reasons gasket sets are NLA in Norway, William fixed the issue for me and I got 4 gasket sets in the post today :)

What's the WD40 trick?
it's not really a trick for many, but I never thought about it before he Dave aka Landmark told me about to spray it with wd40.
I've tryed several things on badly sunfaded plastic, everything I've done so far has failed, I didnt have wd40, so I used something similuary.
I dont look after perfect result, neither of my saws are worth it, I was kinda happy that it improved the plastic so much :)

Finally got a little time to get my decals on. Need to go through the carb yet and a few other little things but it's getting closer.

Finished up the 55 Rancher today. I swear this saw may have been used, but not very much.
The saw cost me $20 with the bar and chain, and I spent another $40 on the piston, and gasket set. It fired up after about 8 pulls with the choke on, and it seems to run fairly well on some fresh 40:1 88 Non Ethanol and Shindaiwa Red Armor.
