How ....Just How can a bearing go with such low hrs ..:( We are talking well known precision parts that in my humble opinion should not fail so soon. In your repair Randy, was there any clue as to what could have gone wrong that early in the saws life ?
I've gotten some low hour saws in and ill flush the carb and check fuel for mix pour it in to a glass jar that's one of the first things i do after looking at the piston and even with a good mix some bearings just don't make it don't know why bad batch maybe?

@Brian Carlson seemed to like it pretty well, how did you put it Brian, smooth power? That 394 of yours would eat it alive though, that is one good running saw!
That 394 isn't stock either. That 288 is such a nice package. Well all the ones you brought were in super nice shape. It has nice usable muscle that you don't have to be afraid of. Man I was worried about putting a scratch on those saws. They are so clean.

On this one.....I'm thinking operator abuse. Not only was the PTO bearing shot, the clutch drum bearing was wasted too.

I hope your not referring to my 660 as "clutter". I prefer to think of it more like a "trip hazard", as it's too heavy to put on a shelf after using it all day. :)

Nah, he meant my 272 and 288, big orange bricks have a tendency to get in the way. ;)

I was actually referring to the piles of my own junk.

Your saws are in my safe place. lol

they hold the tarp on his wood pile

Naw man....I keep em under roof.

Last time I checked on his 288, there was an MS880 humping it. I just backed out and closed the door....

Husky 353, doing a pressure check, and found a leak between the case and the seal outer ring, right where the awl is pointing. Must be a scratch in the case.

Going to replace the seal and check it out, but what would you guys use to seal this? I have 3 Bond, Loctite, etc.

I have painted Motoseal around seal and applied vacuum, pulled sealant in, let it sit. Have also used Loctite sleeve sealant.

LOL don't be, they are saws, meant to be used as tools. If something gets broken it's not like I can't get it fixed, I have an in with the local dealer. :meparto:

288 + MS 880 = a big saw with not nearly enough power for its heft that is always falling on its side?

Working on an MS310 for the fire district, complaint was that as you pull on the saw to start it get's less and less compression. Course it has been sitting....I think it was because they were dry starting it...and when it finally got some fluid on the piston things lubed up and smoothed out...therefore the...Oh it's has no compression. Looks used, but no scoring on the piston. Cylinder is smooth, rings are smooth, and I bet the skirts are worn. Probably time for a new piston and rings anyhow considering the saw was purchase in 2003!
