This arvo I've gone back inside my own built 3120xp
I've had some problems in the build, especially with carburetion.
It's a 2 pce head, boost ports, running on Alky.
Today I feel my mods on the wg3 carby are up to the task, so I decide 2 pressure test the crankcase.......
I find a leak in my clutch side boost port...off with the cylinder, repairs are done now....2 be continued!

A friend of my Dad's brought me a couple saws. This is a 1100CD that he used in the late 70's into the 80's as his falling saw as a logger. It's been barn art for years. He brought me a 032av that he says runs fine except that it leaks fuel, not at the cap. Also a 42cc newer Poulan that he can't get to run right and has limiter caps on the carb.

Here's the deal, I can keep the 1100 and he kindly asks I try to get his other 2 saws to behave for firewoodin'. The 1100 has no spark and he says the oiler quit working too. I haven't put a compression tester on it yet but it feels good. There's a coil on the eBay for $90 that says it will fit this old girl, not the adjustable type found on a 2100.

Should I go for the eBay coil and try to get it running? Any advise on oilers on these?

This is my priority nowadays, my first ported 242, it's the classic SG.

_DSC3366.jpg

Else then porting it has advanced timing, MM, 346 carb, airfilter modd.
Started up beautiful, and the first thing I noticed was the trottle respond, it is at least on level with my ported 346 NE who has 199 carb and 357 filter.
Sad thing, I just couldnt tune the wot probleby, full trottle 14,5-18k, wouldnt last for long with those differences.
Will give the carb a full rebuild, if it doesnt work out I have to put a 98 carb on it.

Under the category of be careful what you ask for, this stuff came in today for repair: 6 MS 460s and 2 066s.

One 460 is crushed real bad and will just be parts. Just about every major part on it, including the cylinder, is broken. I checked the pistons on the others, and none of them are fried! (I was fully expecting to be replacing fried pistons).

Tree guy (a new one for me) says try to get one 460 working, then take as much time as you want and see what else you can get running.

Did a tune up on one I thought looked about the best, and tried to get it to start, but no go. It did a kick now & then, I think I'm gonna pull the flywheel and make sure it did not spin.

Then I took one with a broken off clutch, and plastic melted all over the crank. Was tough to get the plastic off, but I did, replaced the clutch with the one from the crushed saw, the plug looked horrible so I replaced it and the fuel & air filters. And Walla, it started: But the darn thing won't oil. So I pulled the oiler from the crushed saw and installed it, and it still won't oil!

ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO FIX THIS W/O SPLITTING THE CASE??? Very frustrating to have the saw running nice, and I can't get it to oil!

Will finish checking the others tomorrow.

All the time I was working on that stupid saw the words of my friend Harold kept echoing in my ear. He is a Carpenter, and every time we are working on a project and the going gets ruff, he says "so you want to be a carpenter". Today, the going got ruff!

make sure the oil pump is spinning good and check the worm drive if the arm is tight to the gear

take the oil pump off and spin it with fingers

you dont need to split a case to work on the oiler

I replaced the oiler, so I'm thinking it must be the pick up, and that is in the tank. Can you access it w/o splitting the case? I'm pretty sure it is not the oiler itself.

Did all that, and replaced both the oiler and the worm drive with the one from the other saw. They looked to be fine.

you can either pull it out with pliers or push it in and retrieve the hose from the tank

OK, thanks, will have to try that. Will likely try to get one of the others running first. The good thing about the crushed saw is the coil and carb are likely good if I need them. Plus, missing screws, etc.
