Noticing that the 394 and 288 share the same crank, makes me wonder the obvious, can a 394 cylinder be installed on a 288 crankcase? Anybody ever try such a thing? If so what did it take to make it fit? :confundio1:

395XP rebuild, MS261 for port grinding, and finishing a 359 muffler....

I never planned on being this busy when I was in my 50s. lol

@Mastermind Would/could you be so kind as to measure the outside of the round base of that 395 cylinder, the part that sticks down into the case. So I can either get this out of my head, or go buy a cylinder to try it out. SS

My bench has been full of top handles, I am getting to really hate them.

I find that when you tell people you work on saws they usually show up with some old dog you don't want to fix. Top handles are welcome on my bench as long as it's a 192T or 193T... or a T435.

Diameter of the extension is 2.398"

It protrudes into the case .193"

@Mastermind , 288 case hole measures 2.360" so this may be in the realm of possibility's. Will have to either search out the ever elusive 394 cylinder or go whole hog and find a 395. The pea in my cranium is rolling around pretty fast right about now. LOL

Either jug is just fine.......intake block on the 394, boot on the 395. So pick the one that will work best for the application.

Freshly rebuilt 660, runs pretty good considering it has a chinese repop for a carb on it. :BangHead: Hate when customer's purchase there own stuff cause it's cheap and they think they know everything. Oh well, he rebuilt it himself the 1st time and it blew up. Needless to say I couldn't help but laugh, he uses the cheapest POS cylinder and piston kit I have ever seen....re-uses....YES RE-USES the OLD head gasket. What the hell are crank seals? Whatever...don't need new ones do we! Them things were so worn out the saw wouldn't have help pressure or vacuum for nothin. Anyhow, rebuilt the top end and resealed properly with OEM parts and good to go. Minus that stupid china crap carb....seems to run OK, but not tuned just like I like it.
