Any care for an old McCulloch Super 44A? Here is what it looks like right now... some of the parts will be bead blasted to make a nice finish and remove all of the crud. The rest of the parts will be cleaned in a parts washer.

Also have a Homelite XL98 on the other workbench. Carb is coming back out for a better cleaning since it won't idle.

Brought home a 394 today. Been sitting for years!! Rusty muffler...must have had it under a bench for a while. Guess they used to have it hooked to an old Lewis winch. Busted a gear on the winch, and parked it. Needs fuel system attention, and a clutch cover.

I really like them.
How's it running?

I have one in a box I need to build one day. I need a fuel tank though.

Had a heck of a time adjusting the carb,, first limited coil saw, so got that sorted out and havent had it out since.
Time B4 that was winter and I think it iced up,,,but didnt want to score it so left it.
Its time is coming,,

MS660 had a bad day... I got a call from the tree service guy that he had a bunch of saws down. This was the only one that my magic screwdriver couldn't fix. I tried to start it multiple times. Comp tested it - 85psi... it came home with me. I found this and some light scoring on the exhaust. This saw was recently (month ago) tuned by me and was 4 stroking nicely and passed a pressure and vacuum test prior to the tune (another my saws won't run call...) I test cut with it and it did great. I dont know what caused these problems unless it was the cheap top end flying apart all by itself...IMG_20161118_235115846_HDR.jpg

That's the intake side and it looks gassed.

Looks like ring pin came loose maybe? Theres more visible than should be for sure? Maybe the pin gave up and caused the damge to cylinder and the ring rotated and lodged under the pin and couldnt rotate anymore

The ring pin is way off kilter in there. I was assuming it rattled itself loose and started the path to destruction...

Yes, it was aftermarket. I don't know what brand. All parts were bought by someone else and given to me to put together. Saw has been in use at a tree service for a few years now. Piston still looked new on exhaust side a month ago.
