I used to remember exactly why they leak.........but I don't recall now. lol

Seems if I remember correctly, there was a lot of plastic in it's construction. Probably warps with any kind of heavy usage would be my guess, as it looks like the heat would be kinda trapped there.

Looked at a 510 McCulloch and a 200 Professional in my bone pile first, settled on the 011av as it required less parts to revive. Will have to take another look at this for a small saw for myself, and do a bigger project for the long term. Thanks, SS.

That orange Stihl Vince. 009?

How's it run? I've got a couple of them.......but I've experienced issues with the reed plate under the carby.

its a 011av. it runs good. i gave one to my FIL and he loves it also. torquey little things. this one just needs a general service.. reported hard to start when hot. a blocked up air filter doesnt help that cause.

what are the signs that its a reed plate problem?

edit: just read all the posts in between :) cant see why there would a be leak if the gaskets on either side are good. unless the reed itself was weak and too flappy?

It seems like the reed plate ended up warping. The newer ones are held in place with the carb bolts, but the older ones were attached differently.

I believe they attach with 2 screws under the gasket. The reed block is shaped like the hole so it goes on one way.

i'll check this one tonite , but ones in the past have had 2 screws holding the plate down and 2 carby screws going thru as well. Like in the medicat.

I'm gonna have to dig out an old one. That's the newer plate design of memory serves. The older one didn't have the extra screws maybe. Its been a few years since I noted the differences.

This is what we normally face with a well used 545/550/555/560/562, the wear on the trottle cable through the old style grommet.
_DSC3198.jpg

This is how the new style grommet look, came around 2014 week 46, s/n 01153.

I will upgrade all my 545/550's with the new style grommet # 581 55 92 01, it cost around 3-4$ each.

Edit, updated correct info
