Hard to put just a little bit on, might be a little pre-set time would help a bit. It is quite bothersome to me, let alone the performance aspect, having some hanging there inside the crankcase waiting to fall off, gives me no comfort either. I've heard that(no idea of the validity) the base gasket takes up some of the shock and vibration especially on the modern high rpm saws. Seeing that they continue to defy what the older breed of saws would do, I would not be surprised if this worked out to be true. This all has me thinking that I need an engine lathe.

I use gaskets in most cases. But there are some saws that I don't like taking any more off the base than is necessary.

I like the idea of that. My saw is one thing to mess around with, other peoples is another. I think I'll try to use gaskets all the time if I can. Just seems to make good sense.

518 activator reduse cure time and also improve film tickness.
We used paint activator in paint before, it is a dramatic change in cure temperature, cure time and film tickness to be honest.

I wish there was activator for cleaning lol, perhaps its best to grab less amount saws next time I visit my dealer!

550 xpg - 14, blown crank rod bearing is my guess, normally saws like that is a lost case, somehow the crank locked before the jug was ruined.

550xpg - 15, low hour saw, lean scoring, bottom part seems okey.
Should prepare it for last cleaning before I put it together for shipping, I got a bit extra work :(

It may not be.. "Ideal" ..but if the Nic Plating around the dink is ok and there is not a burr or the wall material has not got a "upset" it should run with a new piston and ring IMO. The dink equates to a bit of lift in the roof i suppose ...dont know if the 281 when being ported works out having a bit of a exhaust lift. Is the dink on the Exhaust port ?

Yes exhaust side. I cant feel a buldge in the cylinder but that doesnt mean it doesnt have a protruding place. I am also concerning about plating.

I would try and save that cylinder if at all possible. Might try and get some insight from someone that works on cylinders all the time, there here a plenty. I've salvaged only a couple now myself that I would have tossed before. Mastermind has a good video on transfer clean up, somewhere around here, that you can watch.

If you can establish that the wall "hasn't" come in "Much" or at all ..then I would think all you will get is the exhaust opening a tiny bit sooner than stock. The 281 isnt so easy to find parts for i think ? so there is that to take into the mix.
You can always very carefully take off the high spot if there is one and then do the MM clean up .

Got t the jug off the 281. I believe its ruined but wanted to hear you guys opinions. And yes the owner said he stuck a screw driver down the plug hole to use as a piston stop. Dumb dumb dumbView attachment 39449

I would debur it, maybe raise the exhaust a little and run it for sure. May drop your compression a tad but who cares...

I've been told as little as 3/8" left at the top of the cylinder will make compression and run. Would be a shame if the "Ping" were ground out of it though. Padaping ping papaping ping ping ping paping ping paping ping ping ping padaping papaing ping. LOL
