I just put an 029 back together that a friend of mine found at the tip.
Ground up rebuild and it goes great!

I forgot how lethargic these low compression clamshell saws are compared to a ported pro saw, even after a muffler mod

To make a really good "short-pipe" you need to know your stuff to the extreme to calculate it right - and be a really good welder into the bargain, to cram it into a reasonably sized outer shell.

Most people aren't able to do any of that, and then comes the need to carburet and port the engine correctly as well - actually it should happen in the opposite order..

I believe I saw an example of this years ago in a magazine someone showed me, on a work saw, Partner maybe, might have been from Scandinavia I can't remember for sure but the pipe sure stuck in my head. Did not look anything like what we would call an expansion chamber, simply angled off to the right as its diameter increased in the bend, then decreased out to its point with just a little sweep in between, was very short like around 8 inches or so by the looks of it, and was very fluid in its design, flowing curves it had. Was touted as the power answer to the working saw. Who knows how it really worked out that guy might be deaf on the right side if he's still around, was a long time ago that I saw this. Surprised my memory was able to recall it at all, as I had little interest in it, or power saws at that time. Was definitely made by a craftsman though, as it did have that made genius look to it. Would be interesting to find out more about it now, and if any of that could be replicated would be a whole other story. Surely that wasn't that mans very first attempt, one would not think anyways. I wonder if the guy that showed me that ever tried making one, he talked about it, Haven't seen him in years now either.

One from the batch I got, 346 xpg - 00, low hour saw.
Broken crankcase, blown clutch, bottom part isn't worth much ;)
