I only ran it briefly, the Hi was out 2 turns, so I set it out only one turn, same result. It seemed fine till you put it in the wood, and when I took the carb from the other saw, it was fine.

I just don't want to be trying to start a saw with a new piston with a bad carb.

I can adjust it w/o the tool, but I think I have to find a screen also, and ensure all the passages are dirt free. Don't like they put it together w/o a screen.

I wonder if the screens are universal size, I may even have an unused one if I can find it (from another carb kit).

Any recommendations if I need a new carb, I think the ebay stuff is hit & miss.

Comments would be appreciated. I believe the screen was omitted in the rebuild, and the lever may be a bit too high. The carb model looks like a Walbro J68B, but I can't find rebuild parts for that at all.

Would the slightly high lever and missing screen cause the saw to bog in the cut? Or is it more likely it ingested some dirt with the screen missing?
Most WJ carb rebuild kits have a selection of pump diaphragms (not metering diaphragm).
1 of those diaphragms has an extra hole in it 2 fit a different model carb.
If you fit the wrong diaphragm, the carburetor will flood itself continuously.
Just a thought without actually having it in hand to properly diagnose :)

MS 660 Carb Help ... The carb was rebuilt by someone else, and the saw falls on it's face when you put it in the wood.

Got me to thinking, most times when you're behind someone else work that's not done right, can be the most difficult of things to diagnose. My suggestion would be to acquire the proper rebuild kit and start from scratch. The few dollars you spend will be more than worth the aggravation saved. You're going to have to do some research into what are the right things that belong in the carb as you can no longer trust what is there now. Another thought, an actual Stihl brand rebuild kit might have just the parts you need and none you do not. I do feel your pain though, 95% of the repairs I do is because someone else dicked around with it first and did not bother to take the time and or effort to do it right. Good luck solving your mystery.

Put to together a couple 346 bottom parts tonight.
346OE 06 and 346 NE 08

I normally prefer to go for 199 carbs & filter & filterholder, I have a few 346 Walbro's also. Zamas get tossed in the bin. Hopefully I can nail a few OE carb floor & top covers.
Other then that I just need new seals & meteor pistons.
