Couple of questions:

Are all newer MS 660s limited coil?

Since I don't personally own any limited coil saws, can anyone provide some advice on how to properly tune one???

Thanks. I don't want to be pig rich, but also definitely don't want to go to lean.

You mentioned the 064 had a limited coil. I don't know a lot about the 064's but I recently got one. I know they had about 3 or 4 coils for that model and different flywheel configurations. Do you know which coil to look for that's unlimited? I plan on pulling it off the wall and tune in some wood when its not 95°. It Has a 660 top end and I did some light porting on it, lowered the squish, and advanced the timing so far. Here's a few pics. I do have a short story behind the saw I can share.

My granddad bought this saw new in 88'or 89' And it had a bow on it at the time. I remember going to the woods with him on his 2010 John Deere to get firewood. After He cut the tree down he would let me chop limbs with a hatchet while he cut it up. All with the bow and now I see how dangerous that was. Not long after that he was taking a pine down in his yard and had a heart attack before he was able to finish. I never thought much of it til I seen it in my uncles barn last year. It had a scored piston and cly and missing the metal name plate. So I wanted to fix it up and get it going. I want it to look stock but with some extra power. I had to put not for sale but still get offers almost every week. One guy said you won't take a $1000 for it. I said nope can't do it. Almost everything is how it was except for the paint, P&C, and recoil far as I can tell. I have the other recoil but the tag was rubbed bad. The carb is still the same. I rebuilt it and resealed the Welch plugs. I'll use it some to keep it going but it's not going to be my main wood cutter. I want to do more porting on it in a couple months when I have time.

I have a friend that goes to the tip and gets old mowers to fix up.
He turned up today with these that he got for nothing.

He said I could have the blower which just needs a spark plug boot and a carb kit, and wants me to rebuild the 029.
I tell a lie, he paid $20 for the 029 which is dirty but still has the original bar with plenty of paint on it.

Plan to strip it right down and make it a solid little runner again

Taken from Dave's fantastic 064/066/660 info tread in the technical area:

1122 400 1201A – 064 for use with Bosch ignition, unlimited coils

I picked one of these off ebay and paired it up with a Chinese unlimited 066/660 coil on my rat rod 064 and it goes like stink.

Bolt on, pull cord, vroom vroom :-)

FYI, the carb on the 029 is the same as for an 044 or 046, and that alone makes the saw worth the price. I converted one with a burnt piston to an 039 with Chinese top end. They are not my favorite saw to work on!
