This is what's been in my bench the last week. Have been doing a lot of reading now it was time to try porting it. There's a lot of details I don't have pics of like the piston Windows and transfers. Squish is at .019. Got it all back together and going to tune it today. image.jpeg
Made my mark on some hard plastic so I could see through to the port to line it up.

Ain't saw related...I know a lot of you guys works on many small engines whether chainsaws, mowers, atv's, etc, etc. I've got a Husqvarna 22" self-propelled push mower with a Honda GCV160 on it. I've had the same air filter in it for the last two years and blow it out with an air nozzle after every use so it's ready to roll the next time. I looked online to pick up another couple of air filters for it and the cheapest I could get Honda filters was $10-12 each. I bought these four exact fit OEM replacement filters, shipping included, for $7.14...and they shipped from friggin Ireland, for that price. Took about 10-12 days to get here but wasn't in dire straits so that was fine. They are exact when compared back to back with the OEM Honda filter...size, thickness, etc. Just exactly what does Honda have tied up in their filters...other than an inkjet printed name and p/n, and a 1000% markup? WTF over..??

The Briggs and Stratton 491588S will fit and work, same filter and can usually be had for $5.00 - $7.00. I agree with Honda filter prices being too high, just plain silly sometimes.

Iv tried genuine and non...no difference that i can detect . This is what i get from my local supplier for the service work on the mowers I do and as Joe says , they fit more than just the Honda air boxes.

I sell the honda 17211-zl8-023 for about the same price as the 491588. I like the pretty green honda ones.

Well, the parts I ordered for the MS 660 and MS 461 (pistons for both, etc) finally came in today, took almost 2 weeks!

Then the owner of these saws (a local tree guy) calls me and tells me that he is dropping off another MS 660 in the morning. seems that the local Stihl shop charged him $125 to rebuild the carb, and when it ran like crap afterwards, they just told him that "now it needs a new carb". He rented a crane and everything, put the big bar on the saw, and it just bogged in the cut.

I told him since the other 660 is currently apart, I'll just put that carb on it to see if it is the problem, but I may vac test it first.

I got that 2nd MS 660 running today, well really it ran, it just died in the cut. The carb had been rebuilt and the limiters pulled, and the high was 2 turns out, so I set it at 1 turn out and it died the same way. There was a lot of oil on the plastic plate in front of the carb, so I checked the spark screen & plug and both were good, as was the fuel filter, all looked recently replaced.

So I took the carb from the other 660 of his and put it on this one. It was very hard to start, and then took a few seconds to clear (I think it had been sitting for a good while), but when it did clear the bog was gone! However, I will tell you, I think stock 660s are anemic! Since the limiters were already pulled I added a DP muff cover and ventilated the baffle a little ... feels a little more like a real saw now.

The owner is leaving for MA tomorrow at 4 am and will be returning around noon, hope to hook up with him then and get his saw back to him. I think he also has a 3rd 660 that is not running, will find out the story on that one and get his 461 and the other 660 running now that the parts have arrived.

On the ported MS 460. Will the carb be big enough or does it need anything done to it? I have the timing at 7 degrees
image.jpeg
And in the vid it was running a little rich at 13,700. It really woke up at 14,200. It was 90 degrees today so I didn't go any higher. This oaks good and dry it's been down about 6 months. It's four stroking more than the vid sounds like.
