Got a batch parts today, some 550, 346, 254, 242 stuff, was happy that I also got new oem 242 piston and two of those PTO bearings who is NLA

While I was at the dealer I figured out that I needed more work, 4 saws, probleby 3 projects eventually.
I think both the 346 is scored and one of the 550 is scored as well, the last 550 may have a working c&p
Guess I will figure out when I pop the top end

Have an 041AV on my bench, that I'm trying to get going for myself, to add to my "Antique Fleet", has usual fuel delivery problems of a power saw of that age, otherwise is in excellent condition. I reckon having one Stihl won't hurt me. Ha-ha-ha. Dug out an old rollomatic bar and RS chain for " 440 DALE", out of my precious junk pile. No paint left had rust but is in good shape. Cleaned up bar and ran chain a few laps through grinders. This will be swapped out later for a newer 24" B&C, when Dale finally gets his saw this Christmas. At least this way I can test and tune the saw, looks like maybe the rains might hold off, today may be the day.IMG_20160907_161531_746.jpg

Off the bench are Chip and Dale. It's more like Danny and Arnold. The 440 really hauled the mail, blew the drum/sprocket right off it(Damn Chinese keepers) Replaced whole affair with an Oregon System I happen to have handy. The 041AV still needs a little TLC(parts are on the way), but is running just fine, idles about like my Harley does, ka-dunk, ka-dunk, ka-dunk. The hard nose bar pictured was what was on the saw. It has an engraving of the Stihl logo like what is on the tank starter on it. Question is how to clean all the rust off and have it look nice where you can see it again? Would chroming be a good idea, or ridiculous.

242 piston difference
242 G - 89 to the left, 242 XPG - 91 to the right

I'll try to post up cylinder difference tomorrow, every port is more tight on xpg jug, almost so I get scared to break a ring.

I have nothing sitting on mine right now. I need a few parts for my 385 and some for the Christmas saw as well. I may go ahead and get started on it today. Keep looking at the JD/Efco thinking it needs ported worse than a 65cc Jred.

Had an opportunity to mess with a 034 super I purchased a while ago. Owner stated it was just a frustrating saw. Would start and idle ok...but would bog down upon throttle...and would only work with a full to half tank....

Pulled the carb apart...it was dry...but should have taken a photo of it. Looks like I could have started a fire with the amount of wood fibers that were blocking the screen...so I looked in the tank for filter....

Dirty old Stihl 011AV. Usual things needed from abuse/neglect, fuel issues mostly. Was not my first choice for a limb saw for myself, but with more time than money was the most prudent. New saw not happening and the 020Professional and the Pro Mac 510 I would rather have worked on, just need too much attention. Has spark and compression, should not be too bad to revive from the dead. The things I get myself into.

Those 346 xpg's wasnt that bad, both should actually had scored top end, both G systems are inside normal value :) None of those where abused.
The one to right where carbon scored, need a new piston, or worse a new p&c, other then that it's a decent 2007 model, it will go to someone very soon :D
The one to left where okey, not that pretty in plastic parts as the other one, all it need is carb clean, oh well, it will get one 199, hate those zama's anyway.

This is how the G wiring goes on all those 346xpg's, generator & rear heat wiring goes to that spot, from there and out to the handle I normally use an insulation sleeving, the sleeving also go through the handle. It do prevent any issues with the wiring.
