Thanks Simon,
When you used the golf 242 on 42 special, how did it perform with the 242 style piston? Better or worse or equal..

I really have not been able to tell much difference between the 2 set ups in the 42 sp ...have tried both combinations in a standard un modified saw. I have a non windowed in my saw that i bumped the comp ..it had a non windowed in it when i opened it up.

You might not like the idea of this Tor, but i have used a Golf piston with a caber ring (on left ) to get a windowed piston and a non windowed piston (Meteor on right) in a 242. I have found that the difference is hardly noticeable but was interested to see if the Golf was a good fit and worth using . It was...
I have also used the same combinations in 42 specials with the same good results. May save you a lot of effort.

thanks,
I got to think a bit on what route I want to go in the future, medium price tag pistons will work on most jugs I guess, but I'm a bit scared how they will last in 242.
I can still get oem pistons (have ordered one, looking forward to see if they changed them) but I dont like the price tag to them, 100$ +.

Update on my ATV engine teardown. Nut on the wet clutch is kicking my ass. Don't think my compressor has enough balls to supply the pressure needed to remove it. There's more than one way to skin a cat. See what I can do tomorrow tired of dicking with it tonight.

I just purchased a pressure/ steam washer this weekend. The steamer is a separate wand with low pressure and does a nice job on cleaning. I use to put them in a tub and scrub by hand, but that got old.

I steam wash all the saws I gone work on, im careful around the muffler opening and carb, blast of most of the water with air, special the flywheel.
It's so much nice to work with saws that are clean.

@Simondo, do you still have the Meteor 242 piston?
If you still have it, could you size up the height of the piston for me?
Oem stock piston has height 34.1 mm, stock 42 piston has height 35.0 mm

242 on the wheel:
Stock timing with gasket:
IN 62.5°
TR 127°
EX 111.5°
To make sure I'm not off the timing I gone reset the wheel a few more times, gone use something thinner then a piston ring...

Gotta pay a bit more attention to this area when I remove the gasket in the future....
