I'm a bit curious. Are these squish cuts slightly angled, or are they typically left flat. Or maybe do some models benefit from an angled cut?
I almost always do mine flat unless I’m trying to match a domed piston. Some guys will cut the bands at a slight angle. I’ve tried it and I didn’t notice any real performance benefits in a woods ported saw. Just my experience.

The original chamber is D shaped, which might be your perception that it's angle cut.

An 024 Wood Boss. I replaced the cylinder/piston, air filter, fuel line & filter, impulse line and ordered an AV mount and a ground wire. I had to really dig to get a good bar and chain combo and it cuts about like it did 40 years ago. (When expectations were much lower) Once finished I’ll clean it up and set it up with its bigger brothers. image.jpg

The muffler doesn't stick? No problem, there's a wire 😉👍 No need for a gasket, no heat shield either 😎
Will the glue hold the missing nut?

If the wire were replaced with a 5 mm threaded rod, it would hold well 🤠 One thinks he has seen everything 😉 I'll see tomorrow if the rod will fit between the cylinder ribs

Drill holes in the bolt heads and do something like this with stiff wire.

I see. You need helicoil inserts then.
Broken screw and broken ear with thread 😉 I'll try to use the threaded rod to wrap around the cylinder and insert it into the muffler holes 🤠 To repair it properly, you will need to disassemble it. / I don't know if JB Weld will withstand the temperature of the cylinder

You can't get JB weld to hold that spot for long.
Either you have to weld a new ear, or you have to see if there's enough room on the back to make a bracket that can go around the exhaust port without slipping off when you screw the muffler on. The latter is a hill billy solution.

Could you make a bracket that bolts down to the case bolt and has a nut to bolt the exhaust too?
I need to figure something out to test the operation of the engine before I disassemble it. There's something growling there, but the spark plugs were flooded, so I'll try again tomorrow

An interesting fact is that the factory silencer is empty inside. The engine is flooded, so the next thing will be to service the carburetor 😉 The cylinder fins are dense, even a 4mm rod does not fit
