ZF-5 2WD S47 trans on the bench. It's from an F450, I think, so it has the parking brake mounted on the back of the trans, and it has the 4x4 extension housing/tail housing that I need for my 4x4 crew cab diesel dually build. They crack all the time and they're no longer reproduced, so they're really hard to find and expensive as hell -- an uncracked used one goes for about $900! Anyway, I got the entire trans for $300, so I'm in good shape. Once I get it cleaned up, I'll dye penetrant test for cracks.

I know on some older Chevy bell housings they were crack prone. Guys used to weld reinforcement beads down them .

I need to fab up some sort of brace or girdle to reduce the stress on the extension housing. There's an aftermarket company that makes them for Shivverlay trucks, but no one is doing this for Fords.

Easy fix on a 288IMG_20230320_121906103_HDR.jpgIMG_20230320_131638827_HDR.jpg
A Husqvarna dealer left it like this the carb and ignition module loose and lost his air filter.
And mangled his coil wire and had the air dam in wrong.IMG_20230320_144230991_HDR.jpgIMG_20230320_150302836_HDR.jpg
Filthy saw the guy never got to run it he bought it not running and took it to two shops they couldn't fix it

Good running saw I tuned it in wood and returned it he's my neighbor
He's a happy camper.

I'm still in the process of sorting the stuff I got from Woody Strommen, working my way through a few small parts bins cabinets. This may be 20 years worth of carburetor work accumulation plus some other odds and ends.

Tested my custom made punch and successfully broke my first couple links, old scrap chain was used for this.
The 3/8" slot on the anvil is too wide, I may try make my own anvil.
