I asked my friend if it ever leaked gas

I think the wore out fuel barb and badly leaking decomp valve led to it
Sucking air and frying the piston.

Since it has a Briggs and Stratton pull handle on it
I used a old Briggs lawn mower coil wireView attachment 369479
It worked out great
I don’t believe leaking decomp valves would ever ruin any engine. Lack of fuel from a leaking supply circuit will.Rebuilt a heavily abused 288
