I had a little spare time today and decided to take my Poulan 25DA apart and see why it doesn't run well. Looks to me like the piston was scuffed up a bit so I took out the sandpaper and smoothed it out a bit, slapped some rings on it and put it back together without base gasket. I haven't checked the compression yet but it felt like it had a bit more compression. If it was a higher dollar saw I would have gone the P/C route but this one is pretty low dollar. It ran when I put it together but still has a problem somewhere. Doesn't run consistently or idle slow without dying..

My 076 is back on the bench
It has had an issue where it would warm up then decide to idle at a different speed every time I came off the throttle.
I stripped it all down today and found that the throttle linkage on the carb throttle butterfly shaft is stuffed and lets the butterfly move by its self.

I tried to fix it but killed the shaft in the process.

Does anyone have an old Walbro WS carb sitting around gathering dust?
I just need the throttle shaft.

Its a WS-26
You can see the dodgy repair someone else has tried in the past.
I attempted to flare it to lock the linkage up but bent and buckled the shaft :eusa_doh:

@Definitive Dave might have one. He was collecting that stuff at one time.

A dirty 441 with a busted fuel tank.
Back in service now with a new tank.
I never wanna see another 441 again.
What a piece of chit

A month or 2 back I posted up some pics of a Husky 268 I was rebuilding.
I sold it to a fella who cuts firewood for a living and was using a 394 every day.

He sent me a text yesterday saying there was something wrong with the saw.
My heart sank and I asked what was wrong.
He said it was so good the 394 never got started any more :-)

A few of the saws I have rebuilt from junkers have gone on to work as full time work saws in the firewood and fencing trade and all have held up perfectly.

Really gives me a sense of pride seeing people make a living from something I rebuilt and taking the time to send me pictures of the saw at work and thankyou messages.

I have my 026 back on the bench to improve on the porting and timing.
I have learnt a lot on this site so its time to make the little saw that could even better.

I thought this would interest the folks here.
Check out the piston wash.
It looks like my right transfer is opening before the left transfer so I will need to fix that up

Looks like my ol' Craftsman edging machine is gonna get the carb pulled and gone through on it. Running a little rough yesterday so I parked it, put my edging attachment on my John Deere weedeater to finish the driveway, front walkway, and back patio/shop concrete.

It had s little bit of gas sitting in it from last year but it was treated with a couple of cap full of Sea Foam and Startron like all my straight gas and any mix is. You've probably got the culprit nailed down. If it is, it's the first carb/fuel problem I've had in many years.

Run a ring up into the bore with a piston. That way you can what is happening.
