I could think of worse problems!Jugs, jugs everywhere!
Nice , very nice. Good for you.Bandaid on a bullet wound........ When they are this far gone they are toast. Owner has been a longtime customer and probably won't make it to the end of summer (terminal illness) so did the quick fix rather than spend a couple g and wait weeks for a replacement.

He was tickled pink when he picked it up. No charge. Looks like chit but will hold.

I was shocked recently to see the lack of quality in a late model Honda casting. Porous as. Mate who does a lot of skeg repairs said it was pretty common. Was a dirty casting. Good chance that's why it broke off where it did. But when they have contaminants imbeded in them. They are near impossible to get a perfect weld. This one still popped on me a few times after prewarming twice. Oil or sand in the casting. Being that close to the oil cavity didn't help. But ehh..... He can steer his boat again. All that matters.
Need to find him a ol 056 or something to use for a anchor now. Or maybe that's what he hit in the first place. Someone couldn't heft it back on board.

Yours looks good by the way. He'd be happy enough with it.
Nice job, Mike. Way to keep it aliveRebuilt a husky 238se. Oem pistons are NLA and there’s no aftermarket options. I did some research and found an old thread on AS where someone had modified a 338xpt piston to work. Figured I’d try it. I think it turned out pretty good and the saws runs like a champ. I started with a pilot hole and then ground them out with a burr. Finished them with a diamond burr. You do those windows by hand mike? Looks realy nice
For the flywheel side you need a 6202 c3 bearing…pick your brand. If you want Nachi, you can pick them up off eBay. For the pto side, you need to get the OEM bearing & seal (pn: 525434201)Building a 346xp. What's a good source for crank bearings and seals? I've seen where guys run Nachi bearings, but I can't find a vendor or a cross refernce.
My son would disagree with you about Mercury outboards. But, they do get run hard by Coast Guard. He also works on them all, rates them a little differently by best power heads and lower units. It truly is a roll of the dice. From any manufacture. The most consistent castings in order have been the newer Merc, Brp Yamaha, Suzuki (real close between those three) and Honda coming in dead last. Merc went from total garbage in the 80's to world class around '01-02. And Honda just doesn't use a alloy that is very marine friendly. They never have. Very inconsistent and lacking compared to others. Very prone to internal corrosion and cooling issues.
I will always be a Johnson/Evinrude guy. But have a Suzuki on my fishing boat now.
