I know it looks like crap, but I did some porting practice on a FT 372 jug. Cut the squish 0.030” and the base 0.040”. Exhaust ended up at 106 after machine work, so I raised it to 102. Transfers were at 136 and I raised them to 120 & 123. Intake landed at 78 so I didn’t lower it…just squared up the floor a bit. Just did a quick test noodling with a 20” bar and aggressive chain. I was pleasantly surprised at the throttle response and torque. It definitely needs an 8 pin to cut with that short of bar. Might have to try these numbers on a real jug and see how it goes. For the record, I did not “hog out” the lowers…just cleaned them up the best I could with the tooling I have.D532AD8C-89B5-4220-B017-F72A7D2BFE4E.jpeg03889C15-7419-4605-B149-47E69D676C28.jpeg9277581C-CE59-47F4-9B8D-31AF4CD7B24B.jpeg

My son would disagree with you about Mercury outboards. But, they do get run hard by Coast Guard. He also works on them all, rates them a little differently by best power heads and lower units.

Was only talking about the quality of the materials and castings. You want to talk reliably..... That's a different story. Reason there is a zuki on my boat. :afro:

I agree ... my daughter is working with me doing tax returns this year, good thing or I would really be cutting back.

Don't mind going 7 days a week, but as I get older, I don't like them to be such long days!

Have returns scheduled almost every evening, and others want the morning!

I have not been taking new clients for 3 years now, but somehow the business keeps growing! (Relatives ... ya can't say no!)

Thats a good apprentice position. Lost art training someone who can replace us when we're no longer able.

He's been around saws since he was a toddler. He does pretty good with this stuff. He is getting old enough to want money to do stuff with....so he asked about working with me regularly.

I'm glad to have his help.

Billy Goat blower with an 18 hp Vanguard. Annual service. Serviced air filter, changed oil and filter, new set of plugs. Runs great.

IMG_20220329_113020970.jpg IMG_20220329_153021389.jpgSaw took a 50 foot drop after having about 10 minutes of run time, hit a limb that broke it's fall. Just a lot of broken plastic. Needed new tank, trigger, lock out, spring and brake flag. Back to the bucket truck or climber to drop again.

The first T540 I completely disassembled made me proud of the Germans who designed the MS201T. LOL

91 year old neighbor burned the oil pump up on a ms250 I rebuilt and gave him a couple years ago
I'll fix it next.
So he borrowed a ms170 off
A neighbor then brought it to me saying it quit running on him.IMG_20220329_173756418_HDR.jpg
He'd filled the gas tank with bar oilIMG_20220329_174702025_HDR.jpg
And mix in the bar oil tank
IMG_20220329_180715454.jpg
I fixed and tuned it and dropped it off on his atv
He loads the next days feed when he parks every day.

I take it you do not like what a PITA they are to work on? Even local Husky dealers mechanic has nothing good to say about working on them.
Matter of fact that tree service owner (Big time Husky guy for last 30 years) asked what he should try since dealer can not obtain 540's right now. Left my house and purchased a MS201 to try. Since owners passed, he may turn to Stihl, what a traitor!!!!!:)

I still got one left that I need to go through a little. Damn that thing has sat for probably a year because I don't want to work on it. Wish they all were as easy as the 200t.

I have run both the 540 and a 201…actually own a MMWS 201…the 540 doesn’t compare IMO….and I like husky’s

I hope that I'll still be able to use a saw when I'm 91!

Sounds like a tough old chap!
