just going to shave 20 thou from my own stock 440
tell me what improvements to expect, too much snow here
for now
Little quicker throttle response, sometimes a littler more power, muffler mod and base gasket delete are also nice simple mods that help these saws, I generally cut the chamber and the base on my lathe, and adjust the port timing numbers and shapes, just depends on who buys the saw and there budget.

Time to fire up I guess. Trying to decide what length bar to put on...

Finally got the time to start looking at that 036 I posted last week. After changing the coil it started on the second pull, nice when you get running saw to start with. I'm going to leave this one stock and see how it does.

Well after a few hiccups, she’s running good. Now if it wasn’t -35 outside, I’d go test it out.
22” bar/chain. Need to install a helicoil yet for the top cover. Ignition module was toast, I suspect that’s the main reason the original owner parked it. Ran, but very poorly. Swapped the carb as well, original carb kept flooding no matter what I did.
1989 model.

do the 288s benefit from a timing advance ,20 though from key?
When I put my Rattler 288 together (Mike @rattler kindly machined and ported the cylinder for me and sent it all the way back out to NZ) he told me to take 20 thou off the key and advance the timing, which I duly did. She runs good too.

I've finally started tearing into the 045/056 projects. My first victim was my brother's 045 Super II, it ran for approx. 1 tank before the comp dropped to 60psi. As soon as I pulled the jug I found out why! I have a good used pin bearing from a parts unit, and Proline should be able to supply me with a new piston.

When I was stripping down my second victim, an 056 Mag II I'm building for myself, I found something unusual with the carb. Stranger still, this was not the Mag II with the ported jug, but I guess the guy coulda swapped carbs. Has anyone here seen this kind of carb modding before? These were all day-in day-out logging saws and I'm pretty sure that none of them were competition saws, which makes it all the more interesting. The mystery carb is on the left, a n.o.s. Madsen's-modded carb from 1980something is on the right.

5 hp Tecumseh carb got an hour bath in the ultrasonic cleaner and a fresh kit. Reset float level which was way too high. Made a new intake gasket. I'll put it back on and get it running this weekend.

Got the 357xp done just need to test it out. Then started looking into this 362. I think the carb diaphragms just got hard and it was holding the needle open. Anyone know what the part number is for the carb kit?
