Today's cast iron welding..flywheels needed a 4140 ring to add inertia. Mixing another metal into the puddle making three materials including the rod keeps it interesting..Cast iron can be a bugger, but these went good. lots of preheat and then careful post weld heating..cover em up with a heat barrier and keep the fingers crossed.View attachment 323616

I swapped a dp muffler I got in a parts box onto my XPW. It looks like the guy did a pretty good job of brazing a 181 muffler deflector onto the side of the 372 one and he even incorporated a removable spark screen. I'm pretty happy because finding and swapping on this guy saves me from having to attempt a hack-job mod on the original muffler.

So these 3657172 cases...
I don't see or measure any changes to the crank bearing pockets from 97 to 06 cases.
There is however a couple of extra gussets on the chainbrake wings both sides, and an absolute heap of extra reinforcement within the bar oil cavity for the bar pad.
May I present exhibits 1 thru 4....

Working on a friends MS250. Needed a carb kit but I went with an AM carb. Also somehow the kill switch spring/rod had slipped into a funny position and wasn't functional. Runs beautiful now.

I'm not 100% sure if it's still true but a few years ago you could find new oem carbs for that for about $35 shipped to your door, fyi.

@Woodslasher

I looked for oem,but in the end I am lucky I went this route. Out of the random stuff the carb came with, I also used the oil AM tank cap that was in the bag! I did not realize the OEM one was faulty until I finished the carb.....which is probably why this guy burned his bar and chain up.

Look at all this stuff. Pretty decent quality. I used the filter and filter elbow as well. It was nicer than OEM with the metal inserts for the carb nuts.

Worked on a 250\025 for my brother a couple weeks back..muffler got modded 1\2" hole with deflector welded on and a retune, amazing difference.
My ex-boss told me to pull the finned plate on those and open up the entire rectangular depression behind it. You’ll get a power boost while still retaining the factory spark screen and it won’t be too terribly noisy either.

Looks like you need to get into that carb. Toothpaste on a q-tip in a drill on the needle seat, and make sure the float is not full of fuel and floats. Submerge in water and look for bubbles. Carb might just be dirty.

For $20, went for the “next day” replacement carb. No more gas in the oil.
Fresh oil, fresh plug and its running well again, even at -25 today.
