Had some basement flooding due to the remains of Ida. The GFCI for the sump pump tripped due to an unnoticed extension cord on the floor and we lost the dryer and the motor for the oil burner got wet and worked for a little bit and crapped out today. This weekend's project is to replace the motor.

Still waiting for the burner motor so I decided to check out some projects.

Troy Bilt rider I picked up a few days ago got a check out and estimate written up.

Bosses Lawn Boy got checked out and carb kit and fuel cap ordered

Finished up the free roadside find push mower. It got the missing air vane choke spring replaced, governor spring replaced and rpm adjustment. Changed the oil, plug and blew out the air filter. Removed the fuel valve to unkink the fuel line. Touched up the blade, scraped the deck and good to go.

These two are finally ready to go. Néw bearings, seals, gaskets, piston rings and a butt load of other new parts. Repair bill on these exceeds $400 each and the guy I’m building em for seems real happy to get em. He’s been asking about them weekly since I picked them up. Must be really tough out there.image.jpgimage.jpg

This is on my bench too. I just bought it to help with seal / bearing installation on a bunch of saws I’m repairing. Cleaned some rust off the handle, replaced the worn adjustment screws on the front with new cap screws, lubed it up and started having fun right away. Works just like I’d hoped it would. image.jpg

Working on my friend’s IEL 52 two man saw.

This is awesome old technology.

Even comes with a owners manual in good condition.

The faded one on the right is another friend’s IEL 51 that goes to old school stuff shows.

The faded one doesn’t run anymore (bent crank) but someone at one point installed newer coils in it before they went obsolete.

The red IEL 52 continued to run up til about 10 years ago when the original coils gave out.

The old guy that had it sold it to my buddy if he can get it running again.

Now it’s at my place to be put back into running condition by swapping coils.

This is gonna be fun to see running

Thought I was done with the free roadside find mower. Turns out I wasn't! I'm surprised how well it actually ran.... Replaced the bowl and bowl nut/main jet with one off a mower that I had in the junk pile. Runs great now.

Neighbor brought me his 365. Says it died in the cut and wouldn’t start there after. Certainly wouldn’t idle.
I told him compression feels low and I’ll look at it.
I started looking and found the fuel filter was crappy. So replaced that and it seemed to make much better. Started and idled fine. Although it was unimpressive in a cut. (This is a Special it turns out)
Looked more today and found this.
What’s interesting is that the machine marks are in decent shape for a 1998 saw and this guys cut 4 cord a year. Except for the FW side of the exhaust, where it’s mollyhocked.
Any possibility this is carbon roll back from the exhaust opposed to going lean? And could lean be from a clogged filter?
Compression is 100 at this condition.

Found a $20 Stihl 026 powerhead today at a thresheree swap meet. Compression was pretty low, so I pulled the muffler. Everything visible through the exhaust port looked alright, so I proceed to remove the cylinder.

Anyone ever see this before?? As far as I can tell, the top ring wore thin on the one side and began to fret back and forth in the groove... until there wasn't enough compression left to make the magic happen. Cylinder is in good shape, so I think this will be an easy fix.
