how did the screw get in there?
how did the screw get in there?
Did the 044 ingest a muffler mounting screw? So the 056 now runs like a champ. Not so lucky for 044 and 046. The 046 case bearings have failed and the 044 looks like it was ran on a very rich mix of roofing tar and 5mm screws. This is going to be one of those cylinders that can only be saved by porting it.

Just curious as to where the screw came from
Some people have special talents..
Like to know to though...

At least the screw is salvageable.
I think Randy did a thread not too long ago about a clogged oil tank vent causing this problem and one or 2 ways to repair/ replace it.
Why does everyone hate 441's? There's one for sale local but I know nothing about stihl other than 038's. I dont want to buy a POS I can't flip easily.
T-1 says they are the best saw stihl ever made .
Nicely done Tor! I'll be doing one like that soon!Lousy weather today, figured out it was time to make a system for porting tools, left to drill a few better holes for my handpieces (and no, I dont plan to fill it up with 40 different burrs lol):

Good choice. The customer opted for a port job instead of jug replacement, so I gave it a good makeover.

Now it's time to install new crank seals and reassemble.
Not quite as bad. It had a little transfer in the cylinder and bad crank bearings. I cleaned the cylinder up and rebuilt all the bad stuff with oem. It's been a rainy day project. That's a clean saw! Did it start out like mine?
