So on Wed the 461 Meteor piston came in, and I got that running and back to the tree guy.

But yesterday I did something more important, went up to NH to visit my new Grandson Alex! The Mustang got 24 MPG!

Congratulations on the grandkid! What kinda motor in your 'stang?

Husky 350 I picked up with a junked top end.
Filled the bearing cup with JB weld, 346 top end with a base delete, timing advance and a second port added to the muffler. I gave her a new fuel line, filter and carb kit as well.

Congratulations on the grandkid! What kinda motor in your 'stang?

It started life as a 4.6 Liter 3V, which is the 1st V-8 in a Mustang with VCT.

It is stroked to 4.9 Ltr with Eagle Crank, Rods and Pistons. Has a Whipple Twin Screw Intercooled SC, Magnaflow Cats and JBA Mufflers. It is pushing about 550 Hp, so I was very pleased with that mileage.

Back in the day, I stuffed a built 427 Ford engine in a 70 Boss 302 Body and had BFG Wide Oval Radials all around on Keystone Mags.

The two cars feel very similar, both have great power from 1,000 RPM to Redline, and both corner(ed) very well.

The difference is now I have AC, Power Windows, a 5 speed, can get over 20 MPG (Everyone was amazed when I got 14 MPG with the 427 on a 320 mile trip), and the new car starts right up in the winter (no wha ... wha ... wha ... RRRRRRRRR!)

The Blue Mustang is my 70 Boss with the 427, the Green on to it's right was a 68 GT with a 302 that was my daily driver, and the Black one was very rare ... A Factory 428 CJ with the 4:30 Drag Pack option.

On the Bicentennial 4th of July we got 22 cars together and went cruising around with open headers, I was driving the 428 that day!

Had all 3 of those cars when I first got married, then had to sell them all, had no garage to keep them in. Ended up with my first new car ... a 70 Pinto Station Wagon (that hauled wood home for my 55 Gal drum stove).

Rainy day project, put together a tire repair kit. Just need to pick up a tire crayon and a folding utility knife. I'll toss in a bunch of spare blades too.

I have a liking for the old school fast backs, and FEs. Especially the CJ.
Have you ever considered hunting down the CJ? Unless, of course, you're already keeping tabs on her.
Some nice cars you had there. :D

My favorite bodies were the 67 and 68 Fastbacks (had 2 67s and 3 68s over the years), and I loved the FE big blocks. Wish I could have kept that Black one, was very rare and valuable, but I couldn't, and I can't complain as I still have a classic looking Mustang. Those were the lightest Mustang Bodies that could handle a Big Block. The shock towers were too narrow in the 65/66 Mustangs.

My only knock on the CJ engine is they were externally balanced, and they were not as durable as the shorter stroke (internally balanced) 390, 406 and 427 motors.

My 427 had low riser pistons so I ran 428 CJ heads on it. (428 CJ heads had Low riser valves and Medium Riser Ports). Tasca Ford had wanted to put Medium Riser heads on the 428 (they originally came with 390 heads), but the Medium riser valves would not fit in the 428 bore).

The CJ heads came out in late 68. All the 1966 and 67 428s, and all designated as Police Interceptor (PI) had 390 heads. In fact, all the GT 500s except the KRs had 390 heads, so it was ludicrous they came with 2 4s! The KRs (King of the Road) had CJ heads.
