Well heres the 039 in a box. One bearing is bad. Will need top end, bearings and seals. Probably fuel line and carb kit too. Since it was free it might make a cheap saw. Will try an aftermarket top and oem carm kit and fuel line.

That cylinder looks like it would clean up okay, why's it getting binned?

I thought it may clean up too. Gonna try sometime and see. Thats how I got it yesterday in a pile of parts. I think it will make a good summer project but I have 2 saws apart now that need to be finished up to make room on my bench so i can go through it all.

They are not like the pro saws ... tougher to clean up an open port cylinder and the AM stuff seems to work just as well on them.
I was wondering about how the open port cylinder would clean up. Looks like a pain but may give it a try. I can get aftermarket for about 150. Topend bearings and seals. Thats the dukes kit. Anybody try them yet? Ther not the cheapest but not the most expensive either.

Projects update.
BG85 is getting a new carb, fuel line and tune up kit which is a plug, air filter and fuel filter.
Echo SRM-230 needs a lot. Guy said I can keep it and he's going to buy a new trimmer.
Carb and everything showed up today for the Ryobi blower. I'll get to it in the next day or two.
Parts are on the way for the Husqvarna rider that needs the spindle and deck belt.
Echo GT-225 is mine for parts now as well.

Tomorrow's game plan for after work is to get the garage cleaned up a bit and get the Troy Bilt push mower done and get her Murray trimmer looked at.

My phone is constantly going off at work with people who want their stuff fixed but I'm out about 2 weeks at the moment.

Picked up this month and a half old br800x from my landscaper buddy that they nailed with a mason dump last night.....landscapers are animals

You won’t know until you try, but I think it’ll clean up all right. I would degrease it with carb cleaner and remove all I could with muriatic acid first. But that’s just me. I don’t like sanding anymore than I have to

I am clean slating a coworkers HP250 G7 laptop, making it ready for selling.
He tried using it for gaming, some people really - it's more office/web oriented, great battery life from what I can see.

Fresh Win10 and all current updates, luckily it's a fairly fast PC with SSD and 10th Gen. i3.
Licensed Win10 was on the unit, another plus.

Dip a Qtip in some acid and dab it on the transfer. Let it sit for a little bit. It'll start to bubble and such. Then dab the spots with a qtip and the end of the qtip should be turning black. That's the aluminum being dissolved. I usually do small spots at a time as to not have acid running into the ports and all up in the squish band. Then after I feel I removed the transfer and verify none of the plating was comprised from the scoring, I finish with a 400 grit scotchbrite hone I made.

I know acid works, but I don't use it (I only use sandpaper).

It takes longer, but less chance of things going wrong (both to you and your cylinder).

If acid gets under the plating, it ruins the cylinder, so if you use it, be careful and clean it out as soon as you are done with it.

Wear eye protection, and don't get it on your skin.

Sandpaper works, it just takes longer. See Randy's excellent videos as a "how to" do it.

I dump about a quarter of a teaspoon into the cap and then dab it onto the aluminum with a Q-tip. When it quits fizzing, smear on some more. Wash it out with water and dry it, and then sand a little bit on it. If there are still dark spots, degrease it again and dab some more acid on it.
