Another project that won't fit on the bench. It should be gone soon. That should be the last
v8 that I do. I have done about 60 engines in my life for street rods, mud trucks, show cars, ect...
This one is a 67 hipo 289.
Now, back to what does fit on the bench,View attachment 294325 and putting smiles on old guys faces that can't fix it themselves anymore.
I kinda miss wrenchin on old school V8s .....then again, I kinda don't.
Who am I kiddin? I miss it. I just enjoy power saws more. Much cheaper than drag racing.

Pulled the blade off the Yard Man to sharpen it and decided it was time for a new one. Lift fins were broken off. Scraped the underside of the deck and changed the oil too.

Picked up this tidy late model 345 off of a workmate a few months ago. Piston had picked up on exhaust side.

Finally found time and motivation to put it back together today. 120'd the transfer off, new meteor, upgraded plastic clamp of death and added a muffler support and 357 dog and AM roller for kicks. First clamshell, there's a few knacks involved ain't there.
Anyway, good thing I was paying attention...

Finished up the Yard Man. New air filter and pre cleaner installed. Cut my back yard with it and it ran great. Adjusted the rpm a little as it was running a little slow. Now it's running at 3200 rpm where it should be. Bagger works too.

THIS was a couple of days ago. Got the block back from the weld shop, they tig welded a busted out section and a crack. Put is together with 1184 instead of Gel Seal like I had used for decades on these. JUST want to try it on out board applications. This got .020" over bore & new pistons. The shop actually fitted a bore to each piston. New rings set a .007 end gap on both for all three cylinders. Put in new case seals top & bottom. Had to buy a "used" crank as the one I had in it was corrosion damaged. SO Far.....
Bore/Hone $240
TIG Crack $200
USED crank (it's actually really nice ) $40 off ebay
USED Piston/rod to replace damaged one. $60
Set of THREE new .020 over OEM pistons $180
Gasket set: $60

$720 so far. Budget was $1000. IF the internals were as clean as the outside looked....would be around $500 to do this job. NEXT one , that is the goal. The running one on the boat , another 3 cylinder 70 is the NEXT project. Then a 80hp triple merc, then a 115 inline six.. :)

Let's play Spot-The-Problem! That little "hiccup" cost me around 2-2.5 hours of driving and trying to figure out how I could get around the fact that one of the bolt holes needed to go through the middle of the single rivet on my new tip style Oregon bar. The solution was to borrow my neighbor's mill that clamps on the bar, in case you were wondering.

I call dibs on the other end...

That 2100 on the other ain't goin nowhere fast, not even for a SP125. Plus, I've got a local guy that might have new tip for that bar checking for me. I seem to recall that he has a new tip, it's just a matter of whether he wants to sell it....

Had this crapsman mower dropped off yesterday. Im the 3rd idiot to have a look at it to see why it won't crank over. Was told its gotta be the starter as it seems the starter doesn't have enough ass to roll the motor over. After checking voltage to the starter motor, I popped the valve cover off and there it was. Rockers were so loose, the built in compression release couldn't do its job so the starter was trying to start the engine under full compression which it can't. Fires up now. Just waiting for the battery to fully charge and outta here it goes

B1CAAB39-6B1A-4AB1-BF04-DFD9687CC4BB.jpeg What’s on my bench? A disaster zone!!!!!! What a mess!
Every time I rebuild a saw it looks like this, before that every tool has its place. I just can’t seem to get organized for saw rebuilds, I’m good at keeping tools in their place while I’m working at work, just not at home.
3400 just rebuilt, new bearings, seals, new piston rings and piston pin bearings. Cleaned up the jug pretty good, blocked off the auto oiler port to the crankcase, don’t trust the pump to not have an air leak. This will be a manually oiling saw only.
Excited to fire her up, tomorrow hopefully

Parts actually arrived this week!
I have almost enough parts to build 2 441's so ordered a new tank from the dealer.
I forgot what a joy it is to "Jenga" that tank on the chassis. At least working with cleaned and new parts is a little bit easier.
Squish is about 19.5-20 with Yamabond 4.

Crappy Craftsman LT1000 with a 16 hp Kohler Command. I put belts on it last summer and she started having belt issues with the drive belt again. Picked it up after work today as she said it won't drive. Belt was still on, idlers ok, belt gets tight when clutch/brake released. Pretty sure the 6 speed gear drive transaxle has packed it's bags and died. Put it in gear and roll it and the trans input pulley doesn't turn.
