How the fiddle faddle do people get water in fuel?

Sabotage maybe? Alzheimer's?

A local tree service was having trouble with their chipper one time and asked me to take a look at it. They had about
20 gallons of water in the chipper's 35 gallon tank. It turned out that a rival tree service did the deed for whatever reason.

Not much recently. This afternoon I serviced my buddy's 170 and 251. Need to pick up a new chain for the 251 along with a new oil cap. The chain was rocked pretty good so I'm just going to replace it. Also got my buddy's Dad's 170 running with a new carb, fuel line, and filter. Got my grinder stand put together and setup. Installed a new chain stop finger as well. Going to start practicing sharpening next week.

That's what I plan to do Jeff but first I need to get the grinder set for .325. I did a 16" 3/8 chain earlier and it seems to be setup pretty good. Gonna test it in the next few days on my 034.

Anybody have any luck with the HL Supply piston for a 7900? I’ll have to P&V test to see WTF happened, but this saw is my go-to firewood saw, so I need her up and running.

It was sitting for a few weeks and when I went to fire today, it popped once then locked up tight and spit gas out the muffler. I’m thinking it might have sucked fuel into the jug then hydro locked?

I brought a couple of McCulloch SP80 saws over to the new building to get them cleaned up. I plan on setting one up with the cold weather kit (AF cover and muffler/preheater shroud) and may sell the other if it turns out O.K. What started as a little cleaning turned into this.

I have an AM "White Box" P&C kit off eBay in my PS-6400, she runs perfectly fine.

I have a couple spare 50 & 52mm AM P&C kits from HLSupply in my spare parts stash, but none in my saws.
They look nice and should work fine in a work saw - just replace the AM piston ring with a Caber one.

I had my large frame Dolmar's hydro lock on me, it did not cause piston damage like that.
That piston ate something, make sure You find what it was!

I flushed the case last night and didn't see anything come out. I checked the carb and intake passages, and there was nothing in there. Not sure what it ate, but it's gone now. (Guess I should flush out the muffler too just to be sure.)

There was a tiny bit of damage to the bottom of the intake port. I sanded it smooth and it looks like it will run to me. I'll clean everything up and get an AM piston on its way here.

Still scratching my head.
