Try some acid on a Qtip. Not much to lose. Use PPE/Eye protection.

Only real risk is undermining the plating if there is a chip/scrape that goes through. Also, watch the port edges. Have a bucket of baking soda dissolved in water near you to neutralize as needed.

You’d be surprised how much you can be fooled by sanding alone. It’s almost as valuable in finding remaining transfer as it is in removing it. Just gotta go slow and be careful.

Zep makes a purple soap that attacks aluminum. We use it at 50% strength to clean up oily aircraft engines. It’s got sodium hydroxide in it (lye). It completely dissolves the grease and will cause the bare aluminum to “boil”. It will absolutely etch a shiny surface (spinner). I soak a paper towel in the stuff and fold it up and lay it over the transfer with the cyl laying on its side. Throughout the day I’ll come back every hour and remove the paper towel and scrub at it with some Scotchbrite (red) and then put the towel back. Usually by lunchtime it’s done, and clean.

I’ve never used it full strength, I did learn the hard way how it will etch aluminum. I was in a hurry to wash my truck and get home and sprayed some of the stuff (50/50) on my wheels. Dirt was gone along with the shine on my aluminum wheels. Got my attention. This was when I first started at my job, so I wasn’t smart yet.

Been messing with a stihl fs55r. Came in not wanting to run so I changed fuel and rebuilt carb. Runs now but it smokes bad like being rich. Ok so went to messing with adjustment screws to lean it out some but then it doesn't wanna run again. Anyone familiar with these little wackers ? I've got an fs90r myself but never had any problems in 5 years
I have opened up the muffler also to get rid of the giant baffle inside.

Sounds like nozzle or acc oring are messed up. New carb is 29-35.00. I haven’t seen one in a while. New ones are fs56 and they suck same for the blowers

Went and visited @SOS Ridgerider this morning and picked up the work tray for my trimmer stand that he got for me. Took less than 10 minutes to setup! Thanks again Sondre!

This lovely pile.... customer complaint was won't stay running. Found the typical rotted fuel lines and hard carb diaphragms. Dumped the fuel tank and it was straight gas... luckily it wouldn't run long enough to cause damage. Piston still looks fine. Getting fuel lines, filter, carb kit and new air filter (was missing).

MS461 in for some repairs. Was ported by someone...I have no idea who but here is another example of what happens when you sand the cylinder base instead of cutting it on a lathe. Time to price out a new cylinder kit.

Kid said it ran great til it didn't. Lol
Been production falling with it for a few months.
I'm guessing that's Stihl oil by the looks of everything inside. Nice and dry....

It looks oblong? Like a crush. Or is that a camera illusion?
How do you tell that it was sanded and not machined?
It's pretty caked up also.

Wasn't crushed, just my *s-wordty phone. I can't get a great picture but it's clearly been sanded.

Finished test running the blower I did last night. Ran good. Tweaked carb as needed.

Up next is a Wisconsin Robin powered Homelite generator that needs fuel system help. Fuel smells rotten and I'd imagine that the carb needs cleaned or replaced.

So whoever ported it can cut a pop up piston but can’t cut a cylinder base. Nice:bash:
