Are they simple to rebuild? Or are you familiar with them?

Not simple. I had this a part 70,000 miles a go, it had a broken shift fork then and I put this synchro in it then to. If the truck was stock it wouldn't be an issue

They circled the problem on the front of the truck for you:asz:

I had a 372. It runs now. Not quite right with the carb on this one. It may need some more air flow through it. 660 is ported and back together. It's not too shabby with a short bar. Going to have to get another carb on it and see if it will idle just right.

ZF built the 6 speeds in Both the other Government bailed out auto makers too! I hate automatic transmissions for pulling a trailer and no one makes one that'll withstand 450hp and 900-1000lbs of torque that don't cost $5000, I'll have this fixed again for less than $500. As far as circling the problem... They out sold Dogs and Chubbys combined 2 to 1 in the diesel pick up market!!!

You ford guys are so sensitive[emoji6] I'm just surprised a Ford had enough power to break one. LOL

I like the ZF better than any of them besides the NV5600. I

I like my 5600. It's why I'm trying to piece the rest of the truck back together around it. Lol

Yea I am kind of sensitive about my stuff! I could go on and on about how big of a pile a Dudge is or how pathetic the suspension is on a Chubby but I won't..... Lol. Is the NV5600 the ones that always lost the snap ring that holds 5th gear on? Dodge was using the better ZF tranny, theirs were atleast a iron housing instead of this aluminum pos, but they went to the aluminum housing in later years I believe? As far as power goes my Ford does just fine!

Haha. I'm a in line 6 guy. A real diesel shouldn't be V8. I'll take the rest of the pitfalls for a real engine. I've had all of them and GM is the bottom for favorite. If ford had an inline 6 I would have one. The bottom end torque here in out curvy hills is just better. I had a 7.3 and 6.4. They were ok. They had to be wound up too much to pull.

The NV 4500 is the one that lost 5th. The 5600 is a 6 speed.

Ok, I am after some advice here.
I have a 371 and a 372, both have stuffed big end crank bearings, the 372 case is sporting a lot of apoxy along the case under the muffler, one dead piston, a dead clutch, one missing oil pump....... I am thinking of making one runner from the bits.

Question, in the good 372 above, would the factory jug and 2 ring piston be better or worse than a single ring 371 piston and cylinder?

Gotcha! Yea the V-8 is a different power range, I've had all 3 brands too, my 7.3 does need more RPM than the 5.9/6.7 cummins. I never liked the narrow power range in the older cummins and the limited top end. Real nice on the bottom end though. A tuned 6.4 is crazy! They just have junk pistons that cum a part in them. I never cared for Dodge trucks though, everybody likes something different though. I just like my truck and it's been dam good to me

The narrow powerband was easily fixed. My favorite tow rig for years was a 93 dodge with injectors and a timing bump. Then I got a 05. The common rail are world's ahead in smoothness. The 6.7 I have now has plenty of torque. The duramax was a weird power band to me. Not quite as wound up as a 6.0 but about like a 7.3
